On Sunday, March 6, my son Kurt and I made a quick overnight trip to Atlanta to see my Dad and to attend the 60th anniversary of a church plant that he and mom were core members of all those many years ago. It was the church I grew up in, too. It was such an incredible blessing to be there.
Kurt and Dad that Saturday
The church had such a wonderful celebration that morning. I especially loved how they honored the last four surviving couples of that core group who helped start Decatur Church of Christ (now NorthLake Church of Christ) back in 1958. My sweet mom, June, went home to be with Jesus in 2009 so she wasn’t there in body. But I sure felt her presence—and she was beaming! (Dad is sitting in the first chair on the left.)
They showed the “then” pics of those four couples. My family’s pic is bottom right.
While I couldn’t lay my hands on that exact pic (in the slideshow) here’s one from roughly that same year. My brother Doug always loved getting his picture taken. NOT! I think I must’ve been bribed with Krispy Kremes because apparently I didn’t mind.
At one point in the celebration service, they asked all the people present who had grown up as children in that church to come forward. The group was much bigger than this but I’m grateful Kurt grabbed this pic.
We enjoyed a catered BBQ lunch afterward, and I loved seeing a lot of dear friends whom I hadn’t seen in years, while also meeting some new friends like the pic above of me and Kristy Shelton. Hugs to you, Kristy. It was a pleasure getting to chat!
I also got to visit with twin sisters who were at Harding University (Searcy, Arkansas) who were there at the same time I was. I knew of them but didn’t know them well. Neat that God crossed our paths these 30 some odd years later.
A closer pic of me and Dad. I was so honored to stand up there with him, and so proud of his and mom’s decision to help plant a church in 1958. That church is still growing and is so wonderfully diverse and full of God’s amazing love and grace. Nothing you do for the Lord is ever wasted. No matter if you see the fruit of a certain task or not. God’s Word never returns void.
Have you attended any “life events” recently? Any events that gave you a glimpse of the sweetness of heaven and of all the joy that awaits as we look back on God’s faithfulness with treasured family and friends from the past—along with new family and friends from every tribe and every nation who we’ll spend eternity with praising our Lord Jesus?
Much love on this Tuesday,
Tammy
ANNUAL KRISPY KREME CELEBRATORY MOMENT
and an encouragement to all you gals!
If you’ve followed me on FB long, you know that after my annual mammogram I treat myself to two Krispy Kreme donuts, and this week was no different.
Of course, the donuts must “feel my pain” (even though I don’t find mammograms painful, per se. Uncomfortable? Sure!) But getting annual screenings—whatever method you choose—is crucial.
I decided to change it up this year and get a chocolate one too. After all, chocolate has such healing properties. : )

I always fell God close to me, when I go out at night and I see millions of bright stars above me. I can´ t describe my feelings… but it´ s something beautiful and so dear to me.

We were blessed to attend a ministry celebration in Peru this winter. The Lord used my husband in it’s beginning 10 years ago as well as let him teach classes for many of those years. It started with one class in Lima but has spread to more then 4 countries in this time. It was so much fun to meet people from all of those countries.

How fabulous, Jen! Isn’t it amazing that God takes our feeble efforts and offerings for Him and makes them into something everlasting. We truly are broken vessels, but oh, with his glory he can work miracles. Thanks for sharing.

Your donuts cracked me up! When I first read the comment I didn’t get the significance until I saw the picture!!! Thanks for the laugh for today 🙂 (PS I have had some painful ones and would have needed green donuts afterwards as that is the color I turned the next day)

I love the pics of the reunion! What a sweet time and I’m so glad your dad was able to attend. What precious memories. (And I love the pic of little you! I had the same bangs, only my bobby-pinned hair flipped up, not under! LOL
I always love seeing your tradition! I don’t know how you can stand to smash them though. LOL I may have to try that tradition one of these years. Although our famous Round Rock Donuts top Krispy Kreme by a mile, so I would definitely go with those.
Sending you a hug!
(BTW, I had to laugh at that Deborah Raney gal going to Magnolia recently. Ken is probably totally blaming you for that little side trip! 😉
