Monday I learned that Imperfect Justice hit the CBA bestseller list in June. This is the first time one of my books has made a list. Needless to say, I’ve been on the verge of happy tears all day. Imperfect Justice is my 28th book, and the story is so important to me that this is a sweet moment. I want to share that with you.
There are certain milestones for authors.
- Obtain your first contract.
- Win or final in a prestigious award.
- Obtain your second contract.
- Have a book signing!
- Fight past writer’s block for your third manuscript.
- Attend a bookclub that read YOUR book!
- Wonder if you’ll ever have another sellable idea.
- Land your fifth contract.
- Watch a book climb to the top 100 in an Amazon category.
- Land your tenth contract.
- Hit a bestseller list.
- Land your fifteenth contract
- Hit the USAToday list.
- Sweet to your twentieth book and wonder why you do this to yourself.
- Hit the New York Times list.
- Get your thirty-second contract.
- Etc.
There were days I wondered if one of my books would ever crawl on to a list. It felt like a Jericho I didn’t know how to circle because it’s so far out of my control.
Readers are the one who buy the books.
So thank you.
Sincerely. I still get giddy and weepy at the thought that one of my books edged onto a list.
To celebrate Eric and I took the kids out for ice cream. I can’t take you all to ice cream, but how about a giveaway instead? Use the rafflecopter form below. In a week I’ll have the program randomly select three winners:
- the last crazy cover ARC of Imperfect Justice
- an arc of Delayed Justice, which releases October 16 (don’t forget if you preorder it and email me a copy of your receipt at cara@caraputman.com I’ll send you a copy of Dying for Love in Cherry Blossom Capers.)
- And a copy of Beyond Justice and Imperfect Justice
Thank you for being part of my writing journey and good luck!

I’m currently reading “Miss Kitty and the Irish Rebellion & Other Stories for the Young” published by Lamplighter Publishing. (The Miss Kitty story was originally published in 1888.) Have you ever read any of the Lamplighter Publishing books? They are republishing books from the 1700’s and 1800’s that have Christian truths and morals. I used to be an elementary school teacher, so I still enjoy reading children’s literature from time to time. http://lamplighter.net/c/
Cara Putman says
How fun! I haven’t read any of those, but I’m listening to an audio book on Little Women and Louisa May Alcott. It’s been fascinating!
Andrea Cox says
Cara, congratulations, friend! This is really exciting! I’m still attempting to get Shadowed by Grace to hit the bestseller lists, as I talk about that one all the time. Christian Fiction Devourers (on Goodreads) will be reading it in October as one of our two book club reads of the month. Cara, feel free to drop in for that; we love our authors! (Everyone else here is welcome to join in the fun too!)
I am currently reading a stack of books, but the one I’m most excited about is Tricia Goyer’s Songbird Under a German Moon. I love a good WWII book, and so far, this one’s hitting all the good vibes with me.
Blessings,
Andrea
