A chance to win To Win Her Favor…and a Kindle Fire

May 5, 2015 By Tamera Alexander

Morning friends,

I’m out the door to Bowling Green, Kentucky soon and am eager to see those of you who are gathering at the Bob Kirby Branch of the Warren County Public Libraries tonight. We’re going to have fun.

But first, a giveaway!

Enter to win a Kindle FIRE and my newest release

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, I’ve long held a strong connection with Southern history. And what historical event defines the South as much as the War Between the States? Family homes became headquarters for troops, churches and schoolrooms became hospitals for the wounded, and the hills thick with pine and meadows lush with grass became hallowed ground with the blood of the dead and dying.

The years of Reconstruction forged a steel in the hearts of surviving men and women for a new life, a new country. I find myself fascinated by what they accomplished in the face of overwhelming odds. And remember, ultimately, so much good came from this time of immense suffering in our history too. So many advances in medicine, botany, mental health and social justice, to name a few.

All of this is what inspired me to write To Win Her Favor—along with the magnificent thoroughbred history of Belle Meade Plantation, and a handsome Irishman who strolled into my imagination one day. : )

What’s a favorite time in history you like to read about or study?

Tammy

Warren County, I’m coming your way tonight!

I’ve always enjoyed reading WWII stories. I don’t know why. Maybe because my ancestry is mostly German. Why did it have to be Germany tearing the world apart? Then I received a bundle of postwar letters from distant cousins, and they fired my imagination (and my debut novel!).

How cool, Terri. Don’t you love reading those old letters… Thanks for sharing and congrats on your new novel, friend.

Me too, Pam. Those Little House books still live so vividly in my memory.

1700’s & early 1800’s in America. The people who settled our country were strong, courageous and in many cases desperate to survive. I greatly enjoy a well researched and well written book depicting these amazing people.

Weren’t they, though? Talk about true courage and grit. Thanks for visiting today, Mary.

Safe travels to Kentucky, dear Tammy! I’m sure the folks there will love you. 🙂
Not being a “copy-cat” (*wink*) but the years following the War Between the States is also a favorite time period of mine too. Amazing what those folks endured and overcame.
I have my copy of To Win Her Favor beside me right now and CANNOT WAIT to begin reading!! (and must say I LOVE that cover—gorgeous!).
    Hugs and Love, Patti Jo

Thanks for the kind words, sweet Patti Jo. And yes to those years following the Civil War. Such upheaval in our country and in people’s hearts, such a time of change and rebirthing. Painful though it was. Appreciate you!

I love studying and reading about the WW2 era, especially in Europe. The courage and faith of those who worked in the Resistance and who hide the Jews knowing the risks were willing to give up everything to stare danger, evil and death itself in the face continually blows me away

Me too, Abby. I pray I’d have the same courage as they did.

My all time favorite is the Civil War because it caused so much emotional an physical upheaval in the nation. It is a period rich with stories. My next favorite, is post Civil War – the military dealing with the Indians. Love doing the research and have started a couple of works in that time period. Thanks for your books, Tamara. They are an inspiration to me. God has truly blessed you with a gift for writing.

Thank you for those kind words, Judy. You and I are kindred history sisters at heart! : )

Tammy, thanks to authors Cara Putman and Sarah Sundin, I’m really enjoying WWII fiction right now. I go through phases of what type of fiction I read at any given moment. I’m also reading contemporary, but that wasn’t your question. 🙂 I enjoy many different eras: 1920s, WWII, Victorian, etc.

    Blessings,
    Andrea

LOL, Andrea. (I’m actually reading some contemporary now too, but don’t tell anyone.) Thanks for sharing! 😉

You are an amazing author. I always look forward to your new releases.
I love to read stories set in the 1800’s, but enjoy most all historical eras.
