Happy Wednesday, friends! I have something exciting to share. I have a completely refreshed website. You can check it out at danipettrey.com
I LOVE the new colors and the image in the background. There are so many fun touches. But, if you’ve visited my website before, you might be wondering why the change from the stormy beach theme.
Well, it’s a first for me, but I’ve set my new series, Jeopardy Falls, in New Mexico. Why the change from coastal areas to the desert? Because I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for high school and part of college.
It’s extra special to me because I met my husband there, we were married, expected our first daughter, and spent close to our first year of marriage there. This was taken on our 25th on a helicopter in Hawaii about to tour the Big Island.
In addition to the very special memories of our marriage starting out in the southwest, there’s just something about New Mexico that anchors deep into your heart. There’s a reason it’s called The Land of Enchantment.
One Wrong Move is my first novel set in the fictional town of Jeopardy Falls, New Mexico. And, I’m excited to announce it’s available for pre-order now. Here’s a little about it.
TAUNTING RIDDLES.
A SHOCKING STRING OF HEISTS.
TWO BROKE HEARTS TRAPPED IN A KILLER’S GAME.
Christian Macleod was pulled into a life of crime at a young age by his con artist parents. Now making amends for his corrupt past, he has become one of the country’s foremost security experts.
When a string of Southwestern art heists captures the FBI’s attention, Christian is paired up with a gifted insurance investigator who has her own checkered past.
Andi Forster was a brilliant FBI forensic analyst until one of her colleagues destroyed her career, blaming her for mishandling evidence. She now puts those skills to work investigating insurance fraud, and this latest high-stakes case will test her gift to the limit.
Drawn deep into a dangerous game with an opponent bent on revenge, Christian and Andi are in a race against the clock to catch him, but the perpetrator’s game is far from finished, and one wrong move could be the death of them both.
Want a sneak peek? Drop by my website and on the home page there’s a special excerpt of the first three chapters. Hope you enjoy it!
Reader question:
What town or state holds a special place in your heart and why?
Thanks for spending today with me!
Blessings,
Dani

I graduated from UNM; New Mexico will always hold a very special place in my heart and memories. Especially dear are the memories of farolitos at Christmas time–who knew a lunch sack full of sand and a candle would be so breathtaking?

Oh how fun! I know. We called them luminarios for some reason, but they were so beautiful. I loved lighting ours and then driving through the neighborhoods and one really big church that did them.

New Mexico is a gorgeous state, but my heart is in Colorado. I grew up in Kansas, but moved to Colorado in my early 20s. And I loved every minute living there. When hubby and I go back to visit family and friends, I insist we spend time in the mountains. Most of the books I write are set in Colorado or have a reference to the beautiful state.

I love Colorado. I love that you write most of your books set there. Whereabouts in Colorado? We love Durango. I’d move there in a heartbeat, though I’d desperately miss the beach. Only thing that would be hard about moving back to the SW, but it has its own gorgeous beauty.

Dani, I love pretty much all of Colorado. We lived in the Boulder area for a number of years but spent the last three in Montrose. Same state but so different. Loved the San Juan Mountains so much. We’d love to go back, but it’s way too pricey now. Blessings on your writing!

My husband and I visited a pastor friend and his wife in Farmington, NM in the fall of 2019. It’s so gorgeous out there! My husband said he could easily retire there. It really was amazing. Your new series set there sounds great!

Interesting location.
I dreamed of living in northern NM and AZ as a young adult. I spent 6 weeks in that location on a mission trip while in high school.
After marriage my husband and I moved to southern Colorado and had several opportunities to visit that area.

I love it!! So excited for this new series…and so much fun that it’s a new destination of writing for you.
I lived in Albuquerque when I was really little, moved back to California when I was 3-years-old. My dad was in the Air Force and stationed there. I loved standing out on the balcony of our apartment and watching the hot air balloons go by. I have had a love of hot air balloons ever since. One day, I will ride in one!! And…one day I’ll get back to Albuquerque for the hot air balloon festival!
Special places to my heart…I love book set in Alaska – thus why I first picked up your books! 🙂 Books set in Texas…thankfully there are many! Those two are probably my favorite…but I also enjoy books set in (or near) places that I’ve been to.
