A November Full of Fun—and a GIVEAWAY!
Halloween came and went in a blink — and oh, what a fun one it was!

Yesterday I had the joy of spending time with two book clubs. Their love of story—and history—just filled my heart!

Last night, I met with another book club in a nearby community. The hostesses, friends Kim & Teresa, fixed recipes straight from Miss Mary Bobo’s Boarding House Cookbook—fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green chili rice, candied apples, and more, with blackberry cobbler and fudge pie for dessert. So good. We had a great discussion about In These Hills and about what’s “truth versus fiction” in the novel (and then promptly forgot to take a group pic).

This Friday evening I’ll be at the Christy Awards Gala in Nashville. Such an honor to celebrate alongside these incredible authors and the stories God has given them to tell.
Have you checked out this year’s finalists?
This Saturday, I’ll be at Read, Write, Rendezvous (with 50+ other authors) here in Nashville. It’s a fabulous annual reader/writer event, and we’re celebrating our 10th anniversary! If you’re coming, let’s be sure to connect during that fun-filled day.
And finally, save the date: Friday, November 14 — I’ll be signing at The Book Inn in Fayetteville, TN as part of The Host of Christmas Past. If you’re in the area, come by and let’s visit!

How fun that you visited two book clubs in one day. The chocolate cheese pie looks delicious!
My favorite holiday dish is pumpkin pie with either whipped cream or vanilla ice cream on top! I’ve even been known to have a leftover piece of pumpkin pie for breakfast!
Dixie bake from the better homes and gardens cookbook 1968 I think
Ooh, do tell. What is Dixie Bake?
Erin,
It’s a sweet potato 🍠 side dish pretty simple to make and not many ingredients or steps
Sounds yummy. I love sweet potatoes!
My favorite holiday dish is my mom’s variation on an old time favorite. Years ago, she found this recipe and it’s been a favorite ever since. I’m often times asked to bring this dish to gatherings and many times asked for the recipe.
Green Bean & Shoepeg Corn Casserole
Ingredients
1 can French style green beans – drained
1 can White shoepeg whole kernel corn – drained
1 can Cream of celery soup
1 ½ cup Grated cheddar cheese
½ cup Sour cream
½ cup Onion – chopped
1 can Water chestnuts, chopped finely
For Topping:
1 roll Ritz crackers, crumbled – rolls are smaller now – use a bit more
1 stick Butter – melted
Directions
Place the green beans into casserole dish.
Top with the shoepeg corn.
Mix all other ingredients except for the toppings. Pour on top of the corn layer.
Mix the cracker crumbs and melted butter together and the top the casserole with the mixture,
Bake uncovered for 40 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
Thank you for the awesome chance to win a copy of Miss Mary Bobo’s Boarding House Cookbook!
Congratulations on all of your events, and safe travels.
A favorite dish for my family is corn pudding, which I make from a recipe that came from a church cookbook in Amelia County, Virginia. My mother’s family was from there. The recipe states that it came from Mrs. Erma Wiggers who passed away in 1977 at the age of 99.
Panettone – only ‘discovered’ a few years ago when I started learning Italian, & soon after becoming available in NZ so I didn’t have to keep making my own…
I just started reading In These Hills. I was surprised by the violence against the suffragettes!
No favorite recipes. I am not a cook, so do not enter me in the cookbook giveaway.
Good luck in the Christy contest. All the finalists look like wonderful books!
My favorite holiday dish, hmm? Does that mean meal? Dessert? Salad? Okay, I was in charge of making the pumpkins pies for family gatherings for a good number of years so I will pick pumpkin pie (but only because you said we have to say a favorite!)
You have been (and will be) busy! Wish I were closer so I could join you, especially The Host of Christmas Past! How fun! This time of year, I really enjoy all the treats, from turkey to leftover croissant sandwiches to pumpkin pie. If I were making a treat myself, one of my favorites is pfefferneuse (AGH, but I can’t spell it). So yummy!
Our family are cookbook readers, it might sound strange but some habits are don’t break from generations down. I guess my favorite ties with stuffing and sweet potatoes with marshmallows and brown sugar. I can still see my grandma putting the pan in the oven with the marshmallows on the top. My family made giblet stuffing and I have quit doing that since most everyone does not like giblets. (I use sausage now)
My fav holiday treat are yams with brown sugar and lots of toasty marshmallows. Secret family ingredient is to add orange marmalade 😜
One of my favorite holiday recipes is pumpkin cheesecake bars. They’re swirled with both classic and pumpkin cheesecake, and they’re oh-so delicious!
I always love reading your Life and Fiction posts, Tamera. They are so warm and newsy! It’s hard to pick only one holiday dish. One of my favorites is my mom’s stuffing, and another is my grandma’s green bean casserole. This isn’t the typical one with crispy onions. It’s made with a roux and sauteed onions. Then, you top the creamy green bean mixture with crushed corn flakes and shredded cheddar cheese. Delicious!
Several years ago, my mom made a carrot soufflé for Thanksgiving and it has since become one of my absolute favorite holiday dishes!
Looks like a fun day!
I pre-ordered your novel from Baker House, and it came a little earlier than the official release day. It’s still on my ever growing reading pile!
Thank you for this amazing post and Thank you for this awesome cookbook giveaway I Love cookboks! Have a blessed Day!
Coconut Custard Pie is my favorite. And it’s so easy to make. Sounds like a lot of fun events going on for you right now!
My mom’s turkey stuffing is my favorite! I could skip all the other dishes on the table and be happy with just that. And I didn’t even like it as a kid! Mom is now 90 and has passed on that recipe and task to my daughter who happily makes it each year.
