A Trip to Merry England

September 10, 2015 By Cara Putman

Sometimes life sends a happy detour your way. The first week of this month, I was in York, England for a professional conference. Eric and I had a direct flight in and out of Edinburgh (Hugely less expensive) so added a couple days to the end, so we could explore that beautiful city, too.

It was a time filled with conference sessions and relaxing. Ambling and rambling around cities just to see what we could discover. Staring at menu after menu until we found one that looked just right for that meal. (By the way, if you’re ever in York, we highly recommend the Nook. Fantastic food! and great atmosphere!)

Sometimes a #writer has to explore. @cara_putman shares photos from #England & #Scotland.

So today I thought I’d share a few of our photos from the trip. One of the things Eric liked to do was ask what I thought the story was behind different people and places. I guess he’s trying to get me ready to write this next book! I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as we enjoyed taking them. And be sure to go to the end where you can enter a book bundle giveaway I have right now over at my blog.

York Minster: a church has been here for almost 1000 years and 50% of Britain’s medieval stained glass is in its windows. Stunning! But don’t skip the undercroft…

The easy part of our ramble up toward Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh. This was a recommendation and so GLAD it was. Breath-taking views.

Just one of the many flowers I photographed. So delicate and hardy at the same time.

Eric taking a picture of me taking a photo of him. Yep, we did that. It’s also in York, such a beautiful, OLD town.

Holyrood Palace where the Queen stays when she’s in Scotland. We didn’t take the tour, but it is beautiful on the outside.

One more view from the hike to Arthur’s Seat. If you’re ever in Edinburgh, you must do this, without the crazy detour Mapquest took us on.

I mostly enjoy contemporary fiction. I do read some historical, usually set around WWII era or later.

Ellen, you know I adore that WWII time period. I’ve also found I like a good regency which has surprised me. Never anticipated that.

Oh my! I have to choose? I love both! Eek…I suppose Historical would top contemporary. I love the learning aspect of historical fiction, especially concerning the WWII era.

I’ve found I go through spurts. I binge on historical, then binge on contemporary. Now I need to binge on writing my next novel.

I love both but I seem to get involved more in historical to learn how people survived in those pioneer times, although trying to survive nowadays is a trial too. Thank you for the giveaway.

I spent a bit of free time in Edinburgh after a tour outside the city. I found myself wishing I’d taken a city tour.
I love WWII historicals, since that’s what I’m writing (My series comes out next year.), but I enjoy sampling other genres.

Historical fiction is by far my favorite genre! It does compete with Suspense though 🙂
It’s funny that you and your husband took pictures of each other taking pictures of each other…lol!! My best friend & I used to do that all the time as teens. How fun is that? And I enjoyed all those photos you have posted here, such a beautiful country. I especially like seeing the castle! Thanks for sharing about your trip & the pictures!

Historical fiction is my very favorite genre. I appreciate the research the authors do to place their characters within the events/happenings of the time period. So much more than we might have learned in school.
So glad your husband was able to travel with you on this excursion! What fun. Beautiful countryside. Thank you for sharing your photos with us. Kathleen ~ Lane Hill House
