Over the last few months, I’ve been actively looking for ways to incorporate more scripture into my day. With a full-time day job, writing, and three children, time is a precious commodity. So I’ve slowly been adding small snippets of truth into my day. I have the You Version Bible app on my phone and set that to show me a verse of the day at 6:00 am when I wake up. I read it and meditate on it during my shower and while I get ready for work. Once in my office, I have verses on 3×5 spiral bound cards that I rotate once a week.
However, there is something extra that taps into my creative soul when I combine scripture and art. So, I’ve started looking for ways to add color and art to my scripture experiences. Some are small, like the wall calendar I have with a gorgeous mountain photography and verses about strong fortresses and hills. Or the mouse pad I use that has old books, quill and ink, and a Bible verse that reminds me of why I write.
I love to cross stitch, and have been known to stitch Bible verses such as these:
I recently discovered a verse-of-the-day program through Bible Gateway called Visual Verse of the Day that sends a scripture meme to my email box every day. Here are a couple examples of ones I particularly liked that have come through recently:

Not long ago, I posted about the scripture color art project my Posse has been doing this summer. That has been another artful way to incorporate scripture into my daily routine. Here is my latest effort with that project. I’m finally starting to figure out how to put colors together–well, least a little. Ha!

I love all the ways you’ve carried out Deuteronomy 6, Karen:
6These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
When our kids were younger, we put short Scripture verses on the bathroom mirror each week to memorize. I should start doing that again!
My favorite Verse of the Day is the one we post here at Inspired by Life…and Fiction each Sunday. (I’m a little prejudiced since it comes from my husband’s website, Clash Entertainment. 🙂 ) Sign up (free!) here: http://www.clashentertainment.com/verse

We do the mirror thing, too, Deb! I remember I mom taping Joshua 1:9 to our bathroom mirror when my brother and I were growing up, so I started doing that for my kids once they hit their teens. I intended to switch the verse out every week, but I’ve been horrible about that. I think I switch them about every 3 months. Yikes! I need to go switch that when I get home. 🙂

What great ideas, Karen! I think it’s important to get all the reminders to turn our attention to God’s Word since our minds are so prone to be distracted by everything going on around us that we forget the Source of our help! I also have a stack of memory verses that I keep handy and read through every morning. I keep them handy throughout the day so that I can pull them out and pray through them when I’m in particularly stressful moments.

Great idea, Jody! I have the scripture rock you gave me sitting directly below my monitor, so I have that one at hand, too. The more time we spend in His presence throughout the day, the more our earthly cares shrink.

I love that you have a daily Bible verse set up for when you wake so it’s the first thing you ponder. I do that too, but will admit I need to be better at reading it first so I can ponder it as I’m getting ready for the day.

I’m usually pretty bleary-eyed when I read it, and I try to aim the light from my phone screen away from my still-sleeping husband, but so far, it’s worked well for me. I usually read it a second time after my shower when I’m a little more alert. 🙂

I also have NUMEROUS 3×5 cards with scripture and several cross-stitches (much smaller than yours). I got the idea for the 3×5 cards from a novel by Robin Jones Gunn almost 20 years ago. 🙂

I love that a novel inspired your cards, Ellie! That’s awesome. 🙂
