Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved Advent calendars. My mom used to buy me those paper ones where you could open a new door each day and see a Christmas character or message. Being patient was so hard. I wanted to open all the doors!
When my kids were young, we had a wooden Advent calendar that hung on the wall. Each day, one of them would open a door and reveal a wooden character on a thread that they could hang on the nativity background. By December 24th, the entire cast of characters would be assembled.
This year, when Misty, Tracie, and I worked on bonus goodies that would serve as preorder incentives for our Christmas novella collection On a Midnight Clear, we all embraced the idea of creating a grown-up Advent calendar to share with readers. Each day contains a verse and a short devotional thought to help us focus on the Savior’s coming. Although this was designed as a preorder special, we received permission to share it with all of our readers as a Christmas gift.

More Advent Goodies . . .
My good friend Lacy Williams has put together a wonderful treat for all of you. She brought together a group of authors to sponsor a bookish advent calendar filled with books for you. Each day of Advent (December 1-24), a new Christian historical romance will be available to download for free. Including one of mine!

Here’s how it works:
● Bookmark the advent calendar webpage. (You can sign up for daily email reminders there as well.)
● Visit each day to claim your free book.
● But don’t wait—each book is only free for 24 hours!
You’ll find heartwarming stories of faith, hope, and happily-ever-afters from authors you love and maybe discover some new favorites too.
And here’s the best part: If you know a friend who loves Christian romance, share this with them! The more readers who join the fun, the merrier.
Ready to start celebrating? Head over to the advent calendar webpage and grab today’s free book!

Ah, what a fun offer! One thing I love about the Christian writers community is the spirit of giving among us. Tis the season!
May the Lord bless you as you create more stories that encourage readers.

Thank you, Jill. Merry Christmas!
When I was little, my sisters and I took turns placing felt decorations each day of December on a felt calendar my mom hand-made. When we became adults she hand-made replica calendars for each of us so we could repeat the tradition with our own kids. I treasure it!
How special, Becky! I love that connection to your mom.
Sounds like a fun giveaway there!

In the Catholic Church, there’s an Advent wreath at the altar with three purple candles and one rose one. (It’s fine to have white) Each Sunday, a candle is lit as the Advent progresses. The rose one is lit during the 3rd Sunday of Advent. Catholic families will have Advent wreaths at home, keeping it a prayerful as well as joyful waiting. This Sunday (11/30) was the 1st Sunday of Advent.
That’s a lovely tradition. Thanks for sharing, Elisa!
