With the many changes Facebook has made over the past years, we never know what will show up in our “home feeds.” Sadly, Facebook limits the number of posts we see from the people we follow and instead inundates us with ads.
To combat this trend, many people start Facebook groups so that they can “chat” without Facebook’s interference. There are many, many groups out there, including some for readers. Lots of authors, myself included, even have groups for influencers.
As a result of my influencer groups becoming large and cumbersome, I’m in the process of revamping my groups into one: Jody Hedlund’s Reader Room.
Jody Hedlund’s Reader Room will be a place for those who love reading my books. Within the group, I’ll be sharing inside glimpses of what I’m currently working on, upcoming projects, advance title and cover reveals, special excerpts, and much more.
My reading room will also be the new place where readers can sign up to become an early reader and get an advance copy of a new release. I’ll be posting the sign up within the group, and those who are active members are eligible to fill out the form for a chance at becoming an early reader.
With the changes, I’m also opening the group so that it’s available to all legitimate readers who are excited about my books. If you’d like to join the group, please follow this link and request joining: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1645996612301613/. Once you are accepted into the group, feel free to start chatting!
Ultimately, my hope is that Jody Hedlund’s Reader Room will not only allow me to get to know more readers on a personal basis, but that readers will also have the chance to fellowship with one another in a safe and caring community.
Hope to see you there!
If you’re a part of a Facebook Group, what are some things you like best about your group?

I enjoy getting to know people who share like interests. I have made some incredible friendships with people I have never met face to face, but they feel like family. Also exchanging ideas and offering answers to problems/questions is another bonus.

So excited you are doing this! I like groups because you don’t miss content based on FB’s algorithms. Smart move!

I like hearing insights on upcoming stories. I also love to share concerns with others and on the flip side to have games!

You reader room sounds fabulous, Jody! I have to say that after starting my own FB Reader group – The Posse (had to stick with the western theme – ha!), I have started to actually enjoy social media. Gasp! I’ve never been very good at small talk – online or in person – so social media had been more of a chore than a joy for me. But my Posse has been going for about two years now, and I love the community we’ve built. We pray for each other, laugh with each other, share books, and even shed tears when beloved members pass on.
One of my favorite things that we have done as a group is our annual homemade ornament exchange at Christmas. We post pictures of the ornaments we receive from members and have a memory of them to see every year when we decorate our trees. We’re currently working on a group prose project where those interested help write a short story, each person writing from a paragraph to a page before tagging the next person on the list. We also did coloring pages last summer that were fun. I would post them, those interested would color, then we share photos of the end results. They all turned out so unique!
One of the greatest benefits to me as an author, though, has been the brainstorming help I receive. My Posse Pals are incredibly creative, and I never hesitate to go to them while in the planning stages of a new story to ask their opinion. They’ve sparked wonderful ideas for me, and it’s so fun to see an idea they helped create come to life on the page. I even dedicated one of my novellas to them because of the integral role they played in its inception.
Have fun with your Reader Room! I pray it will bless you as much as my Posse has blessed me.

I like being able to gain new ideas from others. Whether it is a new to me author or ways to look at different situations gives me insights into areas I would not have considered before.

I am a member of Karen Witemeyer’s group, The Posse. I love that she asks us for ideas for her books. My favorite is the ornament exchange for Christmas. I love Karen’s books and I also love your books. I have requested to join your group. Thank you.

I’m part of Karen Witemeyer’s Posse, and it is such a wonderful group. She keeps us up to date, and it is so fun and supportive- a real sense of connection and community. Thanks for opening up a group for all of us, your fans, too. I’m excited- from one Michigander to another!
