This week I’m revealing the cover for A Worthy Rebel, the next book in my medieval Young Adult (YA) series! The book hits shelves on Sept. 4 (in one month!).
Find out more about it HERE!
For those who aren’t familiar with the series, A Worthy Rebel, is the 5th book and continues the story of one of the characters introduced in the 4th book (A Loyal Heart). As with all the other books in the series, this is a stand-alone, which means you don’t need to read the others first to enjoy it.
Why choose A Worthy Rebel (Or any of the other books in the series) when there are already so many YA romances already available?
Many reasons, actually! One important reason is because the series offers a clean, sweet, romance that any parent would feel comfortable handing their teen (without having to preview it first).
Too often, clean alternatives get a bad rap as being boring. As I wrote this series, however, I wanted to give teens an exciting adventure without shying away from elements they love in popular books like death-defying danger, intense battle scenes, and gritty realism. This series definitely has that, especially because medieval times lends itself to duals, torture, plagues, and much more.
While the books are historicals, they’re also threaded with a fairy-tale feel. Let’s face it, we all love fairy tales because they give us hope that we, too, can rise above our problems and difficulties, that we can aspire to be better and do better, and that perhaps there still is room in our cynical world for things like chivalry, integrity, sacrifice, and abiding love.
It’s my hope that young people who read the romances will come away encouraged to take a deeper look at what goes into having healthy relationships. But beyond the romance, I hope teens will also be inspired to live with greater courage in the face of their own difficulties. (Discussion questions at the end provide food for thought!)
Finally, I wrote this book because devoted fans of the series continued to ask for more! I’ve absolutely loved writing medieval stories, so I didn’t need much encouragement to keep going.
A Worthy Rebel is the final book in this Noble Knights collection. I’m pleased to announce that a brand new medieval series will be releasing next year in 2019! I’m super excited about it and can’t wait to share more information!
How about YOU? What’s the latest YA book that you’ve read? Do you recommend it or not?
If you haven’t read any YA, I suggest giving one a try! The ebook, A Loyal Heart, is on currently on sale for $1.99 as part of Amazon’s Kindle Monthly Deal!

I don’t read as much YA now as I did before my kids went off to college, but one I really enjoyed was Ruta Sepetys’ “Shades of Gray.” It’s a WW2-era story in which citizens of proud, small Lithuania were arrested by the invading Soviets for no reason and shipped off to live in Siberia. A little teen romance, heartbreak, then triumph.

I have heard of that one and have always wanted to read it! Thanks for the reminder!

I noticed you had a different publisher for “A Loyal Heart” after the previous 3 novels in the series. When did you switch publishers?
I see the e-book format of “A Worthy Rebel” is available but not for a “hard” copy of it at the moment.

The most recent YA book I read was A Loyal Heart. I loved it! So, yes, I highly recommend it. I was at our local library yesterday and saw An Uncertain Choice in the YA section. The others in the series were not there and I am hoping they were checked out. I need to inquire during my next visit to see if they have the complete series and if not, recommend they order the other books. They did have several of your other books in the adult section.
I am really looking forward to A Worthy Rebel and, well, any of your books for that matter.
I have started Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas on B&N Readouts Serial Reads. I am enjoying the story to this point. I have been intrigued by what I have read about the books by this author so this serial read will let me know if I will want to read her other books.
If you have a Nook or the Nook App, Serial Reads is a good way to be introduced to new authors.
