It’s that time of year. The days are getting shorter and the air is getting cooler. I like fall. It’s time to settle down and get more work done after finding excuses to goof off during the summer. It’s time for soup and pumpkins, football and s’mores, mums in pretty pots and leaves falling gently to the ground. It’s that time before the harshness of winter when we can enjoy a long walk or a nice afternoon out on the porch. Fall is different in Florida, however. Not as many leaves to walk through, not as many changes of the season. But still beautiful. And this fall, we are thankful even while most of the state is still cleaning up after Hurricane Irma. Florida will make a comeback, just like fall!
My plans for this fall include working on three different projects and starting a new one that’s due after the first of the year. I like a busy winter, all cozy and warm in my office with the sun shining through the windows or sometimes the rain falling and at times, a little sleet or a touch of snow. (Rare here, but it does happen.)
What are your plans for fall? Will you travel? Or stay home? Work hard? Or have some down time? Fall is a good time to count our blessings and cocoon. Maybe read all those books on that TO READ pile. I hope you have a good fall.
And by the way, I was thrilled to find out my Love Inspired Suspense “Tracker” made the Publishers Weekly Bestseller List at # 20 in Mass Market! To celebrate fall and that, I’ll pick a random poster to win a copy of “Tracker” and my LI “Her Lakeside Family.” Just post here and tell me some of the things you’ll be doing this fall. Let’s celebrate the beauty and the bounty of the earth!

This fall I will be going with my daughter to have senior pictures taken as well as taking her on college visits. As a family, we will get away for a few days to a nice little cabin at one of our state parks.
Lenora says
Ellen, that sounds lovely! A good excuse to enjoy the season.
Melanie Backus says
Fall is my very favorite time of the year. I feel more energized and excited when the air has a crispness to it and the leaves changes colors. We will do some camping and take in all the beauty that God surrounds us with.
Lenora says
Caming is fun in the fall–not that I do much of that. But yes, being out in nature this time of year is wonderful! Have fun, Melanie.
Linda D. McFarland says
I will be spending Fall with my 90-year-old mom. She broke her arm and she is in rehab so I am traveling to stay with her to clean her house and de-clutter. A busy time of making memories! Thanks for the opportunity to win!
Lenora says
Linda, I hope your mom heals up and that in being with her, you both get to enjoy this time together before winter. 🙂
Betty Strohecker says
I’m getting my front porch ready for fall – just bought three beautiful mums – and will be preparing my gardens for winter. Then I’ll be ready to settle in for some of that cozy reading you mentioned.
Glad you survived Irma. We, on the east coast, were fortunate also.
Thanks for the giveaway.
Lenora says
Betty, so glad you are okay. I can’t wait to buy some mums, too.
Good to hear from you!
MH says
Autumn is a favorite season for my family. With school, music lessons, and sports starting, it’s a busy season but a season always reminding us of His beauty and creation. Thanks for the giveaway!
Lenora says
MH, you do sound busy. Thanks for dropping by!

After moving into our dream home in the Ozark Mountains and it being our first Mom in 25 years, we plan on staying home this fall and finally being able to enjoy our home now that the work is about done. We are fortunate enough to live in the folk music capital and there is always something to do just a couple miles into town if we wish, but the idea of sitting home with the fireplace going and enjoying the view – with snow which we didn’t have before since we only got ice – sounds very appealing to me.
Lenora says
Kay, that sounds perfect. So happy that you have a beautiful new home and in the Ozarks. I’ve been to those lovely mountains. You will have such wonderful fall views.
Kathy Johnson says
Would love to win your books! We will be staying close to home as we are caretakers of my brother-in-law who has dementia. But we try to get in a couple of day trips and I keep busy helping out in the kitchen for the retreat season at Upper Peninsula Bible Camp near Marquette, Michigan. Thanks for the give-away and the wonderful books you write to encourage us, give us an escape from our humdrum lives and point us closer to the Lord. God bless you!!
Lenora says
Thank you, Kathy. Prayers for you and your family. The Bible camp sounds like a good project. Thanks for stopping by!
Connie Saunders says
I love the beauty of Fall but I still have some “Summer work” to do. Tomatoes and peppers are still plentiful so I hope to get some more canning done. I also hope to work in my yard in the weeks ahead AND THEN, hopefully I can enjoy my twinkly lights on my mantle as I sit in my recliner and read. Thanks for offering your books to a lucky reader and I’m glad that you got through Irma!
Blessings!

Lenora says
Thank you, Connie. I remember canning vegetables. Used to help my mama do that. I appreciate your comments.

As Houston recovers from Hurricane Harvey, I will be finding a new normal. Our local YMCA flooded, so I’ve found another gym that has a lovely pool for water aerobics, my exercise of choice. Since I’m diabetic and aging and need the regular exercise to stay healthy, I’m in the process of establishing a new exercise schedule. Also I care for and tutor a 6-year-old boy after school, so that will be a regular activity. In addition, I plan to read lots of books, which I find inspiring and relaxing. While our local library flooded as well, I do have a stockpile of books I own and will enjoy reading.
Lenora says
Suzanne, I’m so sorry about Harvey. I know so many people in that area. Sending hugs and prayers to all of you. Glad you have books to bring you comfort!
Pam says
Fall is my favorite season. We don’t have fall like we did in the midwest, but there are some pretty trees here too. Fall is busy for me, getting all my container garden cleaned out and ready for spring. I also have sewing projects to complete. Love reading at night when I have a few minutes left in the day! I love reading your posts. They are always thought provoking and interesting!
Lenora says
Thank you, Pam. I hope you do get to find some time to read all you want. I appreciate you!
Evangeline says
We are preparing for the wedding of our oldest grandson the end of October, then I will be ready to cocoon with some good books as the cold weather approaches. Have a good fall and winter. Blessings on you as you write.
Lenora says
Evangeline, an October wedding will be fun. Thanks for visiting us today!
Jen says
Tracker is in my pile to read this month!
Fall is hard for me. I love summer and the hours in the garden but fall means less exercise. Guess it is time to read and find an inside project. Maybe not so bad.😀
Lenora says
Jen, I hope you enjoy reading Tracker and thanks for letting me know! If we have to be inside, at least we have books!
Angie Quantrell says
I’m glad to hear Florida will make a comeback! I’m in the Pacific Northwest, and I’m feeling very thankful today for rain. We need it to put out all of those fires, whew. Fall is my favorite season. I plan to go on long walks, hunt for pumpkin treasures at farm stands, make applesauce in the crock pot, and dehydrate apples for winter snacking. Mmmm
Lenora says
Angie, I hope the fires will finally end! That applesauce sounds good!
Sharon A says
I will be using this time to disconnect from the way too many obligations I have been involved in and taking a Sabbatical. I will be learning and studying Sabbath rest. God’s timing is always perfect. As nature slows down to rest and prepare to sleep through winter, I will follow its lead.
Lenora says
Sharon, sometimes a Sabbatical is a good idea and fall is a perfect time for that! I hope it rejuvenates you!
Kim Potter says
This fall I’ll be working with my home school youth group getting ready for a cowboy themed music program in the spring. And I’ll continue to home school my two girls.
Lenora says
Kim, you will be busy. Bless you! That sounds like fun.
Lisa C. says
After a summer of a lot of company (which we loved!), I am now playing catch-up on stalled projects. Because of the forest fires here, it seems everything is covered in smoke dust, meaning I need to get out the cleaning supplies. I’m back to refinishing my father’s old dresser, which has been partially stripped and sitting on our front deck for months. We’re putting the tung oil finish on a newly installed hickory floor- another 27 days and I can move stuff back in there! I’m still canning peaches and pears, but looking forward to popping jars open as the cold weather sets in. I’m excited, too, that Christmas will soon be here, which means it’s pretty much “legal” to start crafting!
Lenora says
Lisa, you home sounds interesting. The floor must be beautiful. I’m hoping the fires go away. All through our hurricanes, I’ve been also praying for the fires to end. I hope you enjoy all your projects.
Gail Hollingsworth says
Fall is my favorite. Good memories of camping, campfires, turning leaves, county fairs and corduroys.
We’ll be staying home this year because I am primary caregiver for my mom and she moved in with us nine months ago.
Lenora says
Gail, I hope you and your mom can have some good moments and maybe have your own campfire. Thanks for stopping by.
Perrianne Askew says
I’ll just be glad to see the temperature drop below a hundred. 90 degree temps are much easier to deal with. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity.
Lenora says
Perrianne, I so agree. August in Florida can be miserable! But when we get one of those humidity free days, we rejoice!
Stephanie H. says
This fall I am looking forward to the crisper air, changing colors of the leaves, and baking seasonal treats for my family at home.
Lenora says
Stephanie, I love fall treats!!
Debbie Rhoades says
Watching college football games, carving pumpkins, planting bulbs in the garden for next spring, and baking cookies.
Lenora says
Debby, that is a perfect schedule!
tammy cordery says
In the fall I like to go apple and pumpkin picking. There is so much to do.
Lenora says
Apples and pumpkins. Tammy, that is a good combo.
Gloria says
I have some knitting to do. We enjoy college football, including some tailgating and probably some sailing as the weather cools down here in Florida.
Lenora says
Gloria, sailing sounds nice. And yes, we can go out on our boats in Florida almost all year long.
Ola Norman says
I enjoy the beautiful colors and the crisp fall air.
Lenora says
Ola, I love the colors, too.
Cynthia St. Germain says
This fall I am going to be working on doing more scarves. I have been trying to hit Goodwill and 2nd hand stores. I would love to make them for the local women’s shelters and also blankets for the local no kill pet shelters. That is my goal.
Lenora says
Cynthia, that is such a sweet idea and so needed!
Una Ireland says
This fall I will be baking banana bread and pumpkin bread and putting them in the freezer so I can give them out for Christmas gifts.
Lenora says
Una, I just made banana bread. Love it for breakfast with cream cheese.
Sabrina Templin says
This fall I will continue to crochet teddy bears for the SVU Unit of a local police department; I will continue to send out recognition packages to that same department; and I’ll try my hand at a new crochet hat pattern to see if it turns out so I can surpise a detective and my little brother at Christmas time.
Patti H says
I love the sunflowers in the picture. Fall is the time my small community celebrates high school football! I love curling up with cocoa and my favorite book.
MS Barb says
Making soups for the freezer! Our local farmer’s market runs through the end of October, and I’m seeing more root vegetables appear: squash, parsnips, etc! Soups are so good on a cold winter’s night! And I enjoy curling up under the afghan, with the lap dog, to read a good book! 🙂

Cleaning up leaves and more leaves!! Hobo party at friends! Some painting. Fall cleaning. Bike riding!

Dianna says
Congrats on the success of your book!
I’m looking forward to camping with my family this fall.
Jacqueline Robertson says
Hopefully, enjoy cooler weather, attend some fall festivals, and get some projects done that hot weather tabled. Oh, and reading, of course.
