Scrolling through recipe videos, watching cooking shows, and even reading cookbooks is a favorite past time. I especially love revisiting my Mom’s cookbooks with all her markings and notations. Talk about a treasure.
I made Mom’s banana pudding yesterday for Labor Day, which—I discovered while searching through recipes—is almost identical to Ina Garten’s, aka The Barefoot Contessa. How on earth did Ina get Mom’s recipe!! 🤣
I wish I’d taken a pic of mine, but alas, things were a tad crazy and we all just dove in head first. While certainly not a “traditional” or old fashioned banana pudding, it’s delicious! And comes together in a flash, which is what I needed yesterday.
I also made a pot of pinto beans with ham hock (to go with Smash Burgers). Again, so easy. Just put them on and let them cook. While I’ve made these forever, I still appreciate learning what other cooks do. Like Grandbaby Cakes. Jocelyn has a fun site, and she’s got some great recipes!
The next three recipes are ones in my own personal text thread (does anyone else do that? Send themselves texts to remember things?) I have saved to try when time permits.
Anyone else have these recipes saved or follow these cooks?
Olive Garden Dressing Chicken Pasta by the Food Hussy
Cinnamon Breakfast Muffins by RecipeTin Eats (with the brilliant and adorable Nagi)
Easy One Pan Mexican Dinner
So does anyone else have these same or similar internet recipes saved to make? Do you love pursuing recipes? And If you save recipes you run across on the internet, please share ones on your list. Lastly, does anyone else text themselves notes and messages and URLs to remember? (If not, try it. It’s so handy!)
Blessings on this Tuesday which finds me GramTam-ing—and loving it! (What are you up to today?)

Yes! I am a recipe hopeful…I always hope the next recipe will be better than what I already have. The recipes that I know are keepers are saved in a giant binder. I also have ones I love saved in my notes on my phone so I can quickly pull them up when shopping. My new favorite recipe blogger is Natasha’s Kitchen. I love her so much I bought her book. Everything I have made from her is delicious. For gluten/dairy free recipes I love Mama Knows Gluten Free.

LOL, Amber. Recipe hopeful. Love that. And I adore Natasha’s Kitchen too! Her bruschetta is divine! I’m going to check out Mama Knows Gluten Free. I still enjoy those recipes.

In our digital world, it’s amazing how many recipes we have at our finger tips. But it’s also overwhelming! I have tons of recipes saved that I have yet to try. I don’t usually text myself recipes, but I do email myself recipes. I also save them as bookmarks on my iPhone/iPad. Unfortunately, I get stuck cooking many of the same things. I need to find a better way to be more organized, and hopefully that will aid in actually using the new recipes that I save! 😅

I hear you, Bridget, on falling back onto the tried and true recipes, which there’s nothing wrong with that. I do it so often. But I sure do love experimenting and making new things. Yet that takes more time (and usually involves ingredients I don’t have on hand) so I have tons of “yet to be tried” recipes too. Some day! Thanks for sharing today.

I am not a recipe finatic, but have found myself going to allrecipes(dot)com several times recently to find a quick recipe to follow. Most recently it was baked Spaghetti! I had some friends coming into town for a few days, and wanted something that would be ok if we didn’t know their exact arrival time. And there were plenty of leftovers for another meal!
I do print these recipes out and keep them in a big binder if they are ‘keepers’.

I do the binder/print out thing too, Patty. Makes it so easy when my daughter and daughter-in-law and I are in the kitchen cooking/baking. Just grab the binder and pull out the recipe. I usually keep past holidays menus printed in the back too with who joined us. Fun memories. 😉 I’ll have to try baked spaghetti soon. I’ve been seeing it several times on the internet.

Loved this post, Tammy! 🙂
I’m later getting on here because we spent the day with our sweet grandgirls at their house! My daughter wanted to go ahead and celebrate my birthday a few days early, and she’d baked a cake with scrumptious (homemade!) caramel icing—my very favorite. We were talking about my mother (who’s been in Heaven for 19 years) because Mama always baked me one for my birthday. I’m very blessed to have my middle child baking this for me now! I told my daughter how I love looking at my mother’s old recipe cards and books, and seeing her handwriting on many of them. As you said, such a treasure! 🙂
Keep enjoying those precious grands!!
Hugs, Patti Jo

i confess! i too am an addict. i have the Paprika recipe app for 10+ years and have 17K + recipes stored. My latest addiction is Archive.org and checking out old recipe books. Archive is undergoing a project to digitize libraries of books. Any subject — hint great for authors to search for historical info — US and international libraries included. Membership is free and required to “borrow” books. Books in copyright are borrow-able and out of copyright are downloadable in many formats. The ebook option is new and the OCR stinks so i avoid this for now. I use PDF Scanner app to OCR the pdf and have much better results.
Happy cooking, browsing and eating!!!!
