Modern Day Time Portals

April 15, 2021 By Karen Witemeyer

I love stepping back in time. Through the pages of a book, the visual delight of a period movie or television series, looking at old pictures, digging into research, or even working on a craft that has been practiced for hundreds of years. There is something about the past that is just so romantic and enticing to me. It probably comes as no surprise, then, that when my daughter and I met up in … [Read more...]

Antique Quilts

April 1, 2021 By Karen Witemeyer

A couple weeks ago, my daughter and I got together for a Girls' Getaway Weekend in Waco, TX. Now that Bethany is pursuing her PhD At Texas A&M, I miss seeing her on a regular basis. So we've made a pact to get together for one weekend each semester. And because she's the one family member who is as big of a history nerd as I am, we always find a way to work in historical places to stay and … [Read more...]

Heroes on Covers

March 18, 2021 By Karen Witemeyer

It's amazing how much a name helps me imagine who the character is. Not only do I want the names I select for my characters to sound good and roll easily off the reader's tongue, but I love to … [Read more...]

When Texas Freezes Over

February 18, 2021 By Karen Witemeyer

Where I live in West Texas, it's rare to get much snow. We had our second largest snow on record back in January, but February refused to be outdone. On Valentine's Day, Sunday, we received 14.3 inches of snow. That smashed the single day snowfall record for our town of Abilene, TX. The previous record had been a whopping 9.6 inches. The snow is beautiful. Such a rare sight is a treat to … [Read more...]
