Behind the Scenes of Falling for You’s Cover Shoot

April 27, 2018 By Becky Wade

I’m a fan of cover art!  So I was especially excited to get a glimpse behind the scenes of Falling for You’s cover shoot, thanks to the following photos.  It’s my hope that you’ll enjoy them, too!

Falling for You’s cover model, Morgan, and the gorgeous dress she wore for the shoot. Note that the dress is black in real life. Its color was changed to deep, dark blue at a later date by Senior Graphic Artist, Jennifer Parker.

The Hair and Make Up Artist helping Morgan don the fabulous long earrings we can see prominently on the cover.

Getting prepared! Barefoot in a ball gown from the start.

On the left is Mike Habermann (Photographer) next to Jennifer Parker (Senior Graphic Designer). On the far right is Paul Higdon (Creative Director at Bethany House).

Assessing.

An action shot of Morgan walking, coral shoes in hand.

At this point in the shoot, Morgan’s sitting on the stairs that ended up in the final image.

This pose is very similar to the pose on the cover.

I began work on Falling for You in September of 2016.  I submitted it to my editors June 1st of 2017.  I rewrote it last August.  This cover shoot took place in September.  I accomplished two more edits in the fall. I received my first hot-off-the-presses print copy a few weeks ago.  And now… after all of that… Falling for You is now available to readers everywhere.  What a moment!

If you’re interested in purchasing Falling for You from an online retailer, simply click here or on the final cover below.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the cover shoot photos!

I love seeing snippets of cover shoots! This has to be one of my favorite covers, and the decision to “go blue” was brilliant!

    • Becky Wade says

      April 27, 2018 at 10:56 am

My mom said the same thing to me when she read this blog post, Rebecca! She thought the choice to “go blue” was brilliant and I concur.

I am a “behind the scenes” junkie…love to see how a project gets to it’s final result. Love the cover…it invites the reader to read the story on the pages. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

    • Becky Wade says

      April 27, 2018 at 10:57 am

“Love the cover…it invites the reader to read the story” Yes! I think it has that effect, in part, because the model is looking directly out from the cover at the reader.

I’m a fan of behind the scenes photos of covers and behind the scenes of the actual book. I love how they changed the color from black to blue. It looks very natural, I couldn’t even tell. I’ve seen some color changes that haven’t turned out so very well.
I can’t wait to read or listen to this book!

    • Becky Wade says

      April 27, 2018 at 10:57 am

Yep, I was surprised when I saw these photos, to realize that the dress was originally black.

YES! Love it when you pull back the curtain on your cover shoots. I thought this dress was gorgeous before, but seeing a full view of both the front and the back reveals just how STUNNING it truly is. So glad they changed the color to blue as it makes the cover “pop”. The model is beautiful and perfectly reflects the way you’ve described Willow. Super excited to read her and Corbin’s story.
