Okay, let’s start with a confession…
Life simply happened, and I haven’t finished painting the furniture that I mentioned in my last post—and thank you so much for all those fun comments!. I’ve started painting, mind you. The projects simply aren’t ready for the final reveal. I’m aiming for next time!
For today, I would love to know what movies or shows you’ve watched lately THAT YOU WOULD RECOMMEND. The key here being “recommend.”
If you watched something and thought, “Meh…” then this would be a great time to keep that one to yourself—or save it and recommend it to me after we’ve had a tiff! LOL
In turn, I’m going to share some movies and shows that Joe and I watched really and enjoyed—and would definitely recommend.
But there’s a catch…
You have to promise me that if you start watching any of these and think, “What on earth is Tammy doing recommending this to me? This is the absolute worst show/TV series EVER!”—that you’ll take your complaints to Deb Raney and not me.
Deal? Deal! : )
Let’s go!
Now it’s YOUR turn! What TV shows or movies have you watched and enjoyed recently that you consider “recommend worthy?”
Blessings from Nashville,
Tamera

Lynn Austin says
Thanks for the great recommendations, Tammy. Ken and I binged on Foyle’s War. It has history and mystery.
Tamera Alexander says
You’re the second or third person, Lynn, who’s recommended that to me. We’ll check it out soon, thanks!
Anna says
Haven’t watched many movies. But I was really impressed with the 1995 Pride and Prejudice starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. (I have a CD) It is the most – and only – ‘faithful’ movie I have ever seen. It made no major change to Jane Austen’s plot and the minor changes were simply cutting some unimportant scenes originally written with only a couple of sentences.
Tamera Alexander says
I SO agree, Anna. That version is my favorite of all of them. Have you seen Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman? I’m guessing yes. But that’s also a longtime favorite. I’ve watched that numerous times.
Anna says
Good guess! I did watch that version of Sense and Sensibility, and it was great. It wasn’t completely ‘faithful’ to the original but the touches of humour it added in was lovely.
Shirley Chapel says
I don’t usually watch movies or tv, except for the news. Most of my spare time , if I get any, I read. Sometimes my husband will watch a movie and I will get interested in it but that doesn’t usually happen.
Tamera Alexander says
Reading is still my fav, too, Shirley. But I do enjoy watching a show with Joe, then discussing it. Still, there’s nothing like a really good book! Thanks for sharing!
Barbara Harper says
I enjoyed watching two mini-series: Doctor Thorne and The English Game. A recent favorite movie was This Beautiful Fantastic.
Tamera Alexander says
Oh, The English Game! I forgot that one, Barbara. Thanks for the mention of it. We enjoyed that as mini-series well. I haven’t heard of Doctor Thorne. Thanks for the recommendation on that and This Beautiful Fantastic. What an interesting title (for that movie)—and an interesting premise. I’m in! Thanks, friend!
Deborah Raney says
Hahaha! Well, we DID like Win the Wilderness, The Chosen, and a couple others you mentioned, so I guess I’d have to take any blame Tammy pushes off on me. 🙂 We haven’t watched Just Mercy yet, but it came highly recommended by our youngest daughter and her husband. We watch Midway and other WWII movies almost every year around the anniversary of the Normandy Invasion just as we watch Pearl Harbor around Dec. 7 every year. (Ken is fascinated by World War II stories.) We almost never watch network TV, but we do love to unwind in the evening with a movie or a couple TV series episodes, so it’s great to get recommendations!
Tamera Alexander says
Thank YOU for the recommendations you and Ken have given us! There’s so much “meh” out there and I appreciate the pointers toward good choices, especially when time is limited. Thanks, too, for taking the blame pushes. LOL
Janice L. says
“Unorthodox” on Netflix. Might not be for everyone, but a compelling look at ultra-conservative Jewish community in NYC with phenomenal performances.
Tamera Alexander says
I’ve heard of that, too, Janice, but haven’t watched it. Thank you! I love learning more about the Jewish culture so I’m betting I’ll really enjoy it.
Coco says
Definitely The Chosen!!! Words can’t describe this phenomenal series. You have to check it out for yourself. It touches me every time I watch an episode. Looking forward to the season 2.
Tamera Alexander says
Me too, Coco. I’ve watched it three times through. Still with tears and always taking steps closer to Christ.
Kerri says
If you like history, missed with a little sci-fi & romance, try “Timeless”. Great series!
Elisa says
I re-watched the complete “Downton Abbey” on DVD and it still holds up for me. After this month PBS won’t be able to broadcast the series on TV because anymore their broadcast rights for the series is expiring.
I also enjoyed “Sense and Sensibility” (2008) and “Persuasion” (2007) on DVD. I own a boxed collector’s edition of these adaptations.
If your local public library offers Kanopy, it’s a great streaming source of movies and documentaries. For younger viewers, there’s Kanopy Kids. You just need your library card.
Tamera Alexander says
Great recommendations, Elisa! Thank you! I’m assuming you caught the Downtown Abbey movie last year? It was nice to revisit those “friends.”
Becky Wade says
I’m loving this post and thread, because I’m always up for new suggestions! During Covid, I’ve been most in the mood for historically-set BBC shows. (Which I tend to love anytime… but especially now.) I recently watched Begravia by Julian Fellowes and would definitely recommend. Great premise!
Tamera Alexander says
Wonderful suggestion, Becky. I’ve seen that advertised but haven’t watched it yet. But am going to now! Hugs, friend.
Elizabeth Musser says
Thanks for all these recommendations, Tammy. Loved Just Mercy–we’ve watched it twice now. Getting ready to watch Selma again–wonderful. We also very much enjoyed the first season of World on Fire and we love This Is Us. We just watch Shawshank Redemption last night in French. One of my all-time favorite movies. I was afraid 1917 would be too violent for me, but several people have said I could handle it. I just didn’t want to go to the theater to see it and spend half the film covering my eyes. When I’m at home, I just leave the room during cruel, awful scenes, like I did three times during Shawshank last night.
Tamera Alexander says
Elizabeth, Shawshank is one of my top five favorite movies, along with Braveheart and Gladiator. I sometimes close my eyes too if something is too brutal. Those scenes stay with me and I would prefer that they not. There are so many quotable lines from those movies, too. My family is always quoting movies!
I think of our 2014 book tour through Germany together, sweet friend—and with you too, Lynn—and cherish those memories. Kelsey and I laugh about some of our antics. That was such fun. A real blessing, and I’m grateful she got to share that with us!
Thanks for the recommendations Elizabeth and all!
Elizabeth Musser says
Oh, yes! I too cherish those memories of our 2014 German book tour. Remember how Lynn and I were fighting over Kelsey for our sons! Neither are married yet…although my wonderful Chris is getting close, I think?!?! And no doubt Kelsey has been breaking hearts for years, but perhaps she too is taken? Someday, we MUST all do it again! (Hint, hint Francke!) Love to you all!
Sherry Pike says
The other night we watched “Knives Out” on Amazon Prime. It had a tiny bit of language (I think 1 ‘f’ word) but other than that it was highly entertaining. A murder mystery with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing until the very end. Fun and quirky..
Esther O'Neill says
Libraries & theatres closed, maybe till next year, Amazon & co focused on delivering essentials – our village, far North of England, came to the rescue with book and dvd boxes – ( all contributions quarantined) . Currently binge watching totally contrasting series – The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, fascinated by the way the ‘ posh’ Eighth Earl inspector and his ‘working class’ sergeant develop a strong and supportive working relationship – Alternately – from even further back, Jeeves and Wooster often at ‘Downton Abbey’, before they all became so impossibly famous. Secret vice – shared, luckily – After yet another hot day and no rain – Ice Road Truckers.
