I recently posted this graphic on my Facebook Page and asked readers about their To-Be-Read (TBR) Piles. At the time I posted, I had about 5 or 6 books waiting for me to read (both on Audible and on my shelf). I’m always somewhat giddy when I have a stack of really good books awaiting me, books I know I’ll enjoy, books I can’t wait to get to. Don’t you agree there’s something pleasurable in … [Read more...]
ACFW Bound + Ebook Sale on Beyond Justice
It's that time of year. The time when authors head to the American Christian Writers' National Conference. It's three days of teaching, fellowship, and spiritual renewal. I'm excited because this year I'll co-teach a continuing education session with my good friend James Rubart. We're calling it pulling back the curtain on publishing, and I can't wait to dive into the process of writing and … [Read more...]
Another Year in BSF Begins
This morning I begin another year (Sept-May) in Bible Study Fellowship. I attended my first study in BSF beginning in September 2000. We studied the book of Matthew that year, and oh, what a blessing it was. At that time, BSF had seven different studies. Today they have ten (five Old Testament and five New Testament). So if you are able to attend every year without a break, you finish … [Read more...]
Gone To My Happy Place
Hello, Inspired by Life and Fiction friends! I am happy to say that I am presently in England (Lord willing) leading my first-ever group trip to the country where all of my books have been set so far. I am blessed to be traveling with a group of 39 reader-friends and colleagues from many different states. Together with two travel professionals, we have been planning and dreaming about … [Read more...]
Where were you on that terrible day?
Today we solemnly commemorate one of the most horrific days in American history, a day that has become known simply as 9-11. Sixteen years ago today, our son had been called home from college in Iowa to speak at the funeral of a high school friend who'd died tragically in a car accident on September 9. Trey was sleeping in the family room, when my husband rushed home from work in the middle of … [Read more...]

Our Sufficient God
I recently started a Beth Moore study entitled "A Woman's Heart, God's Dwelling Place." One of the verses we read during the first week focused on God's call to Abram in Genesis 12:1: The Lord said to Abram, 'Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.' Well, yikes. That's a lot of leaving. God was asking Abram to give up a great … [Read more...]
Reading Getaways and a Reading Giveaway
My kids are still grieving the loss of summer. With school back in session, there is less time to play computer games, watch Netflix, and get together with friends. I've warned them that when they enter the real world, summer as they know it completely ceases to exist. They are appropriately devastated by this news and do whatever they can to appreciate their easy life while they have it. Yet … [Read more...]
What to leave behind
As I'm writing this, I'm keeping an eye on the weather. Hurricane Irma is fast approaching the state of Florida and we could receive a direct hit. The storm could take a turn and go straight up through Florida or it could hit the eastern coast of the US. We don't know yet. It might change and give the panhandle where we live, a run for our money. So today, I've been washing clothes, buying … [Read more...]
“Editing” Life
I'm currently heavy into writing the first full-length Carnton novel (title yet TBD). Each day when I begin writing, I reread what I've written the day before. It's part of my routine. It helps me to get back into the flow of things, plus I have a pretty wicked editor inside me that I have a tough time shutting down. I tweak here and there. Remove sentences. Move things around. … [Read more...]
