With all the hustle and bustle of last minute Christmas shopping, baking, house cleaning, wrapping, and preparing for the big day, I thought I'd keep today's post short and sweet. There's nothing I love more at Christmas time than singing Christmas carols. My kids have finally gotten old enough to read music and sing harmonies, so sitting in church on a pew where I can hear all four parts … [Read more...]
Say YES to the dress … and the book!
Saturday I went wedding dress shopping with my daughter, her bridesmaids, and my 85-year-old grandmother. Here is the group! (I was taking the photo.) My daughter Leslie is the second on the left with the curly hair! I took photos of my daughter in the dresses she was trying on, and the dress she CHOSE! (It was the 4th one!) But at least a dozen times I was told, "Don't you dare … [Read more...]
Surgery and Surprises
A couple of life events occurred in the Alexander home recently... Last Friday, we experienced our first time to have a pet undergo surgery. Our sweet little Jack (12-lb silky terrier) is recuperating from a completely detached ACL, bless him. He has to wear the cone (yes, "of shame") for two weeks with very limited movement/walking during that time, and after two weeks only gradual walking. He … [Read more...]
A Christmas Tradition
When I was growing up, my mother gave me the same, wonderful book for a Christmas gift every year. Mom was the librarian in the small village where we lived, and books were a fixture in our household for as long as I can remember. Mom loved to read aloud to my sisters and me, and classics such as Charlotte’s Web and Peter Pan were favorite bedtime stories. But the book Mom gave me every year for … [Read more...]

I Love Christmas Traditions!
There's something about the Christmas season that can make it hard to breath. Life seems to speed up thanks to all the extra Christmas parties, rehearsals, pageants, shows, recitals, ack! But I long for Christmas to be a time to slow down and focus on what it really means. A small season to focus on the greatest gift of all and the many gifts He's given us. For my family, that takes the shape … [Read more...]
The Love of Story
Jerry and I returned about an hour ago (when I wrote this post) from seeing the movie, Interstellar. Over the last month, I've had several friends rave about the movie, but somehow, other than knowing it was a movie about the earth in trouble and some people going into space to find another place for mankind to live, I managed to stay ignorant of any details. What a movie experience. Truly. I … [Read more...]
Busy, Busy, Book Release Time
Last week was BIZZ-EEE! First, I celebrated the release of my new book, The Secret of Pembrooke Park, at my local bookstore. This book launch is my big event of the year—my night to feel almost like a celebrity with a big crowd to cheer me on. If you were to study this crowd closely—or the photo slideshow I play while people are arriving—you would see that many of these same people attend year … [Read more...]
