Did you know that authors have launch teams? Launch teams or Influencers are groups of readers who partner with an author around the release of a book. The readers agree to help promote, launch the book into the world, or influence others to want to read it. Usually when possible, the author tries to give members of the launch team each a free book (to make the promoting easier … [Read more...]
Feeding the Muse
Imagination requires fuel. As a writer, it's important to me to feed my inner muse. Not by researching key historical facts or visiting museums or reading books on improving an author's craft. All of those things are important, of course, but there are times when the creative well must simply be filled. Not with intentional, plot or character specific information, but simply with story. I can't … [Read more...]
3 Things Books You Love Say About You
How often do you re-read your favorite books? And what do they say about you? Recently, I've been caught up in Rome during the first century. I first read A Voice in the Wind (Mark of the Lion) and An Echo in the Darkness (Mark of the Lion #2) by Francince Rivers as a young mom. I remember being totally captivated by the stories, and I recommend the books to everyone I know, but … [Read more...]
Fall Fun with the Family
We braved damp, chilly Minnesota weather to sneak in one last outdoorsy weekend. We went camping at Jay Cooke State Park--one of our favorite Minnesota parks. The temps were in the 40s and 50s, but thankfully the rain stopped before we arrived and the rest of the weekend was sunny and crisp. We aren’t hardy enough to go tent camping in such cold weather. (Although we saw several … [Read more...]
A Month of Remembrance
While October is one of my favorite months of the year, it is also a month of reflection and fond, but sad, remembrance. I'm the oldest of the five Teeter children, and growing up on a farm eight miles from our town, my favorite playmates (because they were my only playmates!) were my brother and three sisters. To this day, we remain dearest of friends. I think we are closer than … [Read more...]
The Plot Thickens | Miralee Ferrell
Each Sunday "Inspired by Life...and Fiction" shares with our readers a Christian novelist's newest book and the garden spots where they find inspiration. Miralee Ferrell and husband, Allen, live on eleven acres in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge in southern Washington State, where they love to garden, play with their dogs, and take walks. Miralee also rides her horse … [Read more...]
The Making of a Cover
I just received the cover art for my next book, A Love Like Ours! Thus, I thought it might be fun to dip back into my computer files and remember where the cover-making process began for this particular novel. A Love Like Ours will release in May. LAST May, Bethany House contacted me to discuss titling and cover ideas. The working title that I'd given to the novel was, This Love of Ours. My … [Read more...]
Authors having Fun: Do you recognize any of them?
Right now I'm enjoying a Fall cold, which means no voice and lots of coughing. Aren't you so glad that we're connecting through cyperspace and not in a coffee shop -- though that would be so fun! So today I wanted to share a couple fun videos that show you another side of some of your favorite Christian novelists. We had so much fun at ACFW making the first. My kids agreed that I shouldn't try … [Read more...]
Autumn Comes Calling … And Brings the Birds
I love autumns in Southwestern Idaho. Our nights are down in the forties, but out days are still hitting the high seventies and even the low eighties. Leaves are starting to turn. I run my space heater on my cold feet in my office in the morning. I run the air conditioner to cool down the house again in late afternoon. Yeah. It's a little crazy. This week, the California Quail returned, en … [Read more...]
Cooking up Fiction
I love to cook. Or more rightly, bake. So as I'm writing my novels—especially the Southern ones—it's a natural thing for my heroines or secondary characters to be cooking up some scrumptious entrees and desserts. Here are just a few: Click each of the images for the recipe Ever had Buttermilk Pie? This is a recipe that's been in my family for years. I bet you I've made this pie at least … [Read more...]
