Book-Inspired Netflix Recommendations
Whenever I happen to run across a movie or series that is clean, humorous, well-acted, and HISTORICAL, I get very excited. Netflix has recently produced a pair of series that I have loved, and I want to get the word out so that hopefully, they will get the message that there is a market for clean entertainment.
Seven Dials

Seven Dials is a three-episode adaptation of one of Agatha Christie’s mystery novels. If you enjoy a good murder mystery, I think you’ll really enjoy this story that takes place in 1920’s England. No foul language that I recall and no inappropriate intimacy. It is a murder mystery, though, so there is death and blood and a good deal of alcohol consumption, but I was delighted to find the series so tastefully done.
Plenty of high stakes and whodunit twists. It was very well acted and gorgeously produced.
The ending leaves it open for the possibility of future installments, and I hope those come to fruition.
Enola Holmes

Enola Holmes is based on a YA series by Nancy Springer. Enola is the supposed younger sister of famed detective Sherlock Holmes. She starts as a sheltered and unconventional miss who leaves home determined to find her mother who has disappeared and ends up encountering all manner of mysteries and adventures. There is a touch of romance that culminates in the third movie, and there is delightful humor throughout. I watched the first movie with my daughter when it came out back in 2020 then binged all three earlier this summer after the third movie released. I loved them!

Thank you for the recommendations! I have seen all 3 of the Enola Holmes series and I love them! I will check out Seven Dials now. Always looking for clean shows to watch.
You’re so welcome, Bev. I loved the Enola Holmes movies. So fun. I hope you enjoy Seven Dials.
Seen and loved both. Have you seen The Sheep Detective? That’s one for multiple viewings. Though you might need to break out the tissues for a scene or two.
Yes! I loved that one too. I almost didn’t watch it because talking sheep seemed too silly, but after seeing so many positive reviews, I gave it a try. So glad I did. It was great!
We’ve watched the first two Enola Holmes and loved them. We need to watch the 3rd one–and Seven Dials! Thanks for the recommendation.
You’ll love the 3rd one too! My romantic heart longed for the happy ending, even if it had to be reimagined a few times before it finally came to be.
I liked Wind at Your Book tv series from the 1990’s. I got the DCD’s from my library.
It was Wind at Your Back not Wind at your Book
I’ve never heard of that one. I’ll need to check it out. 🙂
