To Tame a Cowboy, the third book in my Colorado Cowboys series, is now available!
I’m happy to report that early readers are loving this new story! It centers around the third handsome and hunky McQuaid brother, Brody. Unlike his brothers, Brody fought in the Civil War. The death and destruction he witnessed destroyed his sensitive spirit and left him a broken man. His only interests in life are his adorable niece and the wild horses that he tames.
Lucky for Brody, he meets a sweet and sensitive veterinarian, Savannah Marshall, who has a healing touch that soon begins to work its magic on Brody. And of course, the two develop a romance that is off the charts!
In doing research for this story, I focused on learning all that I could about horse training, including reading The Man Who Listens to Horses: The Story of a Real-Life Horse Whisperer by Monty Roberts. His life is fascinating and his love of horses amazing. I had fun having Brody utilize some of his training methods as well as those of the Ute Indians.
In developing Savannah’s veterinarian skills, I read James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small. Although Herriot’s techniques and medicines were sixty to seventy years ahead of Savannah’s time, I was able to learn a lot about what being a vet was like and the emergencies that often came up.
Biographies are some of my best friends! I always love basing my research off real people. They have so much to teach us, not only about their area of expertise but also about life.
For those readers wondering what will be coming next, I’m happy to report that there are FIVE books in this Colorado Cowboys series. Falling for the Cowgirl releases this October and gives Ivy McQuaid her happily-ever-after. And The Last Chance Cowboy releases in February of 2023 and tells the story of Dylan McQuaid, the prodigal of the family. (Although the cover is done for the fifth book, I haven’t been given official permission to share it, so stay tuned for a reveal soon!)

I like that they understand that they too can be a story one day if they just listen to what they read

To me it gives me hope – in humanity, in people, and that there is good in this world when everything from the news to local events try to lead us to believe there isn’t. I love reading how other lives are affected by the up and downs of life, that I’m not alone in feeling frustrated or isolated and that through God all things are possible. It proves that true events can be fun to read and even possibly a learning experience.

Jody,
Stories inspired by real people or real events makes it more authentic to me and I adore historical fiction. 🙂 I also love that you shared your inspiration in research before writing. I, too, love Herriot’s “All Creatures Great and Small”! The book is fantastic and I also love the two series that were created from it. I am so excited for the next book in your series and then reading there will be 5 total makes me gleeful! I have read every single thing you have ever written and I am so excited to read the next one.

I love learning history through someone else’s eyes. I never enjoyed learning history when going through school. When I discovered historical fiction books they brought history to life. All of a sudden, history became real to me. I could see the joy, pain and struggles through these characters and learn from them in the process.
Jo Evans says
Historical Fiction is very grounding. You realize what can be done in life and also learn from their failures.

My favorite part is being able to look up the real person and events after I finish the book
Angie Quantrell says
Happy release day! I like learning from real people because, well, they are real and have real life experiences. And (for the most part) survived and lived to tell about it.

I love stories based on fact! I’ve heard that fact can be stranger than fiction! I love James Herriot’s books, and All Creatures Great & Small holds a very special memory for me. My mom read this book aloud to my dad at night. While I was trying to go to sleep, I could hear them laughing together, and that is just so dear to me. Now they have a new TV series that I’ve been enjoying watching on Masterpiece Theatre. I’m definitely looking forward to reading your newest and am glad there are 2 more to go! Congratulations on bringing yet another wonderful book into existence!

“Biographies are some of my best friends!” I completely agree! Some of my very best research books have been biographies. They give insight into a career AND characterization. 🙂

I LOVE the real accounts based stories because they are reality. I grew up reading all the James Harriet books as a kid wanting to enter vet medicine, thanks to his real accounts I knew exactly what to expect entering into the field how it is much more than healing animals, it is also about the people on the other end of the leash.
Cathy says
I have always enjoyed history, so a story based on real people is just the icing on the cake!

I just finished the second book in this series and did a review on Goodreads. Loved this book and others also by Jody. I have lived in Colorado for a long time. My grandparents had a ranch just outside Jordan, MT. The Kibler family has had a ranch west of there near Sand Springs, NT for quite awhile. I used to visit it when I lived in MT and before moving back to Colorado in 1981. I believe they use my Grandpa Kibler’s old brand. So you can see that I like to read cowboy stories. My
Dad was a MT cowboy.
