Hi friends,
Happy Wednesday. My brain thinks it’s still May and I have the rest of the summer left to enjoy so it’s hard to believe we are nearing the end of July! This is what happens when we change up our summer routine.
We usually kick our summer off at the beach with a long weekend at Ocean City before the madness of Memorial Day. (Yikes!) Then later we have our family beach trip in July in North Carolina.
However, this year we decided to wait until after my book deadline to travel so I wouldn’t be writing non-stop on our vacation. It is a good idea because come August, I’ll be able to kick back in my beach chair, wiggle my toes in the sand, and read. Actually, read for pleasure.
I read while I’m writing but never in my genre (I’m terrified of accidental osmosis) so I primarily read non-fiction or fabulous authors outside my genre like Katherine Reay and Karen Witemeyer (she cracks me up every time).
So which books will be in my beach bag? This year I have a fun and fabulous line-up.
Stay with Me by Becky Wade
Becky and I have the distinct pleasure of meeting during our first visit to Bethany House upon signing our first contract with them. Not long after we became prayer buddies and 10 years later we’re still sharing requests and praises. Becky writes emotional, heart-tugging romance with fully developed characters you can’t help but attach to from the start.
The Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth
Okay, I’ll admit that I borrowed my daughter’s copy of Divergent as I was looking for something different to read and I fell in love with Four and Tris. I devoured the books and I will not give any spoilers but I’m among a strong majority who has strong feelings about the trilogy’s ending. My favorite book of the collection? Four. I’ve read it many times. If you haven’t had the chance to dive into one of Veronica Roth’s sublimely crafted worlds, you’re missing out.
How Sweet It Is by Robin Lee Hatcher
I think this sums up Robin’s beautiful stories of life and love perfectly.
Don’t Overthink It by Anne Bogel
I was so excited when Anne’s latest book came, I showed it to my daughters. My sarcastic one (the other would be my sassy one) said “can you read it like ten times.” So, apparently, I have a tendency to overthink things. Those who know me well, feel free to remain silent on this point. However, I’ve been a fan of Anne’s blog Modern Mr. Darcy as well as her book I’d Rather Be Reading. Thanks to my publisher for putting out such an awesome array of titles.
Reader Question: What books are in your beach bag or TBR pile?
Blessings,
Dani

A week ago, I had got a long list waiting because I had taken ages to read Great Expectations, but now it’s become shorter.
This was my list:
A Daughter’s Inheritance by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller (Very good!)
The Silent Governess by Julie Klassen (Loved the twist!)
The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom (Had wanted to read this since I saw Karen’s recommendation)
The Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare
The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle (2 inches thick!)
Gladiators, Pirates and Games of Trust by Haim Shapira
I have finished the first two. Unfortunately I had to return The Hiding Place to the library because somebody else reserved it. I still haven’t had a chance to read it. But I was surprised and pleased to know somebody else wanted to read it that I left a note in the book. I hope that person will receive it.

Hi Anna,
Wow1 That’s quite the list. I LOVE The Hiding Place. You’ll absolutely love it when you get it back. The works of Sherlocks Holmes are great too. I’ll have to look up the last one, I’ve never come across that one. Happy reading!

I’m not going to get back The Hiding Place soon because the library was temporarily closed due to another COVID-19. It’s a pity but I’ll definitely read it as soon as I can. Gladiators, Pirates and Games of Trust is of an entirely different genre. It explains Game Theory in a easy way.

That sounds like a great Book line up! 👍🏻

Thanks, Anna. I’m excited to dig into it!

This year, I need something far away from 2020.
I’ll be reading The Diary of a Country Parson, 1758 – 1802 –
by James Woodforde.
Realistically, only one more book, so perhaps this could be Anne’s
Overthinking ? That’s me..
