Buzz Cuts, Bribery & Fried Okra
Last night as I was texting Deb about something, I told her I needed to head over to my son and daughter-in-law’s house to cut Leo’s hair. And she texted back real quick . . .
While I’m anything but amazing, he is precious, and I do love cutting his hair—especially this buzz cut on the sides with a fade up to a longer top. I don’t even know what that’s called, which also shows how NOT amazing I am. LOL
Here we are from last night
Never fear, I won’t quit my day job, LOL. But I do love seeing the way he runs his little hand over the “burred” sections on the sides and back (he thinks it feels cool). And gracious, keeping it shorter is sure easier, too.

I actually cut my husband’s hair as well, which all started during Covid. I’ve tried to get him to go back to our wonderful stylist but he says he likes for me to cut it here at home (for the love). 🤣

Haircuts, what an interesting topic. I attempted to cut my 1st daughter’s bangs when she was little. I didn’t do so well. My mom did it after that. She has talent. Wnen we lived overseas because of the army she’d do our hair and others too, even perms. My mother-in-law has cut our hair a few times too.
I’m blessed with gifted daughters, my oldest 2 have cut all our hair. They even cut their own. That seems hard. My husband used to go to a local barber with the 3 boys. His shop was beside his house. He died from cancer, a lot of people miss him. After that my husband invested in clippers for the boys. Poor guys. He just buzzed their hair. Their sisters took over though, so now they look better.
Our community college has a cosmetology program and they have $5 haircuts, $2.50 for their students. We’ve all gone there too. Now only son #3 goes. He really cares how he looks. Son #2 only wants daughter #2 to cut his hair. She cuts my hair and our youngest daughter’s too.
Now that my older girls are on their own I have to cut my husband’s hair. I was afraid at first, but it’s easy. He starts it and I finish. I just shave it all off. Hard to mess that up.😀👩🦲

I absolutely love the pics of Leo’s haircut! How precious, and it’s SO much more than a haircut. You’re making wonderful memories together! I used to cut Ken’s and my boys’ hair but the boys’ hair ended up looking more like I’d put a mixing bowl over their heads and cut around it. I never tried anything as fancy as Leo’s quiff cut!
Quiff cut! Is that what I was doing? LOL I’ve got so much to learn! Yes to the wonderful memories and LOL at the mixing bowl!
I love fried okra. I used to cook it quite often, but haven’t in several years now.
I’ve never cut anyone’s hair, but when we served overseas as missionaries during the 1990s, my husband cut my hair several times; he even permed it once. It actually looked quite good. He also cut our sons’ hair. Our oldest liked his cut similar to Leo’s. You did a great job!
I’m reading In These Hills now and loving it! Our daughter and her family live in Huntsville. She and her husband made a quick trip through Lynchburg about a year ago. She said they plan to go back. I’m hoping on our next visit to see them, we can all go. It’s only a little over an hour from where they live. I already mapped it. 😊

I also cut my husband’s hair! Since he has some significant health issues, it’s just hard for him to even get into a barber’s chair so, for the past 6 years, I’m chief cook, chauffeur, housekeeper, and barber. 😉

Yes, I love fried okra (guilty pleasure) and yes, I’ve cut someone’s hair. Early in our marriage, I cut my husband’s hair. It was great…and exhausting! That man has a thick head of hair. I’m more than happy to send him off to a professional every three weeks!

What cute pictures! You will surely treasure these in years to come. Grandchildren seem to grow up much more quickly than my children did. My granddaughter is 19 today, and my grandson was 17 in June. I recently posted some “then and now” pictures on Facebook. Time flies!
I have only trimmed the sides of my own hair when it is not acting right – ha, ha – but cutting anyone else’s would be out of my wheelhouse. Looking forward to your new release!
It’s hard to believe your granddaughter is 19! Where have the years gone, my friend? I cut my own hair too (VERY carefully) on occasion but only snippets. I save the real cut for my stylist who truly knows what she’s doing! : )
You are amazing! I never attempted any haircuts, not even the buzz cuts my boys lived in until they got to middle school. I loved the feel of that really short hair! Okra is one of those horrific childhood memories for me, so no. But I’m so excited to have my copy of In These Hills!

Your grandson’s haircut is adorable. I cut my hair ONCE when I was 5-years old right after my mom had taken me to get it cut. Had a bald spot for about a month and a sore bottom for a few days 😉 And as for fried okra….I hated it as a kid, but could eat it like popcorn now.

I’ll have to try the okra recipe for Hubby’s sake. And I don’t cut hair, but I’ve probably made my peeps pull out a few strands. Congratulations on your new book!

I have never cut anyones hair. I would be too afraid of messing it up!
I was afraid too, at first. I still cut “little,” meaning that I’d rather cut not enough than too much. You can always cut more, but you can’t put it back, right? LOL
