Our 2nd Annual Burns Supper

March 4, 2026 By D'Ann Mateer 4 Comments

It was already going to be a little less traditional Burns Night this year, given that we were doing it a day early—January 24—so that it would be a Saturday night and not a Sunday night festivity. We had the Scottish food—haggis, neeps and tatties, shortbread—ordered from a Scottish bakery in Michigan, all frozen and ready to heat. We were in the process of figuring out how much other food to … [Read more...]

Spinsters, An Excerpt, and a Giveaway

February 5, 2026 By Karen Witemeyer 54 Comments

In less than two weeks, Taming Lady Temperance will release and introduce you to the Secret Society of Spinsters. I've always been drawn to the spinster trope and the idea that it's never too late to fall in love. Our Community Group from church decided to forgo the traditional White Elephant gift exchange this year and make way for . . . wigs!  Yep, we had a wig exchange. The rules? Whatever wig you opened, you had to wear the rest of the party! There is such a wide range of cheap, funny wigs on Amazon—and we had no two alike. We had everything from dreadlocks to K-pop stars to 18th-century-style … [Read more...]

Colorado Take 2 & those gorgeous aspen

October 7, 2025 By Tamera Alexander

Joe and I made a quick trip to Colorado recently to visit old stomping grounds (we lived there for 17 years). You might ask, didn't you and your daughter just visit Colorado? Why, yes, we did (see that post here). But Joe didn't get to go. So...Colorado Take 2. Only this time, the aspens were putting on a show! We met friends Mark and Michelle Young in Breckenridge, … [Read more...]
