Woodrow Wilson Birthplace and Presidential Library

July 17, 2019 By D'Ann Mateer

What do you do when, while driving from a major airport to a remote meeting site for hubby’s business meetings, you pass a sign that reads “Woodrow Wilson Birthplace and Presidential Library”? You make plans to stop on your way back to the airport, of course! So we did. And how glad we were that we made the time. If you’ve been around here long, you know that my husband and I love … [Read more...]

Re-living History

July 15, 2019 By Lynn Austin

In case you can’t tell, I love history—both reading it and writing about it. I especially enjoy learning about local history. This beautiful resort, The Hotel Ottawa, once stood near the Lake Michigan beach where my husband and I walk every day. Which are, so far: Christmas at Carnton, a novella, and With This Pledge, to be followed next year with the second full length novel (that I'm finishing as we speak) and then the third and final full length novel in the series. To say … [Read more...]

A Must See Film for History Nerds

March 6, 2019 By D'Ann Mateer

You know I am an all-out history nerd. So when I heard about the movie They Shall Not Grow Old, I knew I had to see it. Not only is it a documentary about World War I, the time period during which my full-length novels are set, but it was put together solely with actual footage from WWI and narration by WWI vets recorded up to sixty years ago! How cool is that? Add in a stellar director—Peter … [Read more...]
