Celebrating a special anniversary!

January 2, 2024 By Deborah Raney

30 years ago on New Year’s Day 1994, I sat down to begin writing my first novel. I’d known I wanted to write a book since I was 11 years old, but it took me 27 years to actually start writing. I’m showing my age to tell you that after writing my prologue out by hand in red felt tip pen on a steno pad, I carefully transferred my words to paper on my electric typewriter! 😉

When I was still writing a week later, my sweet husband bought me a second-hand computer (a little Macintosh Plus, which still has a place of honor on a shelf in our family room right there by the stegosaurus 😊).

I never dreamed I would write more than one book, let alone that I would still be writing 30 years later! But here we are!

And to celebrate, I am giving away 10 books of the winners’ choice to anyone who is part of Deborah Raney Readers Page on Facebook! On January 5, I’ll draw 10 winners (U.S. addresses only, please) who may choose any book from the image above (most of my books are represented in this graphic.)

Hop on over to my FaceBook Readers Page for details on how to enter, and thank you so much for coming along with me for all these years!

I pray that your brand new year is off to a wonderful start and that God has many blessings in store for you in the months ahead.

[P.S. My apologies for posting this a day late! If you wondered why there were two Inspired by Life…and Fiction posts today, that’s my fault and Tammy graciously let me cut in on her day!]

DEBORAH RANEY's first novel, A Vow to Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title and launched Deb’s writing career. Forty books later, she's still creating stories that touch hearts and lives. Her novels have won RWA's RITA Award, the ACFW Carol Award, the National Readers Choice Award, and the HOLT Medallion. She is also a three-time Christy Award finalist. Deb is on faculty for several national writers’ conferences and served on the executive board of the 2,500-member American Christian Fiction Writers organization for 18 years before retiring in 2022. She is a recent transplant to Missouri, having moved with her husband, Ken Raney, from their native Kansas to be closer to kids and grandkids. They love road trips, e-biking, Friday garage sale dates, and breakfast on the screened porch overlooking their wooded backyard.

Happy New Year, Deb! I couldn’t help but smile when I saw the pic with your Macintosh computer. That’s exactly the same make and model I used when I went back to college to complete my four year degree. I’m still on a Mac (now a MacBook Air laptop). Many blessings on your beautiful family. Hugs from Illinois!

Yep, I’m still on a Mac too. A MacBook Pro laptop that I love! Blessing back at you! We’ve known each other a big percentage of those 30 years, haven’t we? ♥️

I’m so thankful you wrote that first book and have continued to write. I’ve enjoyed all your books, seeing your family and travel pictures, watching you move and redecorate. Happy New Year and keep up the writing.

I have been blessed to spend Christmas and the New Year with my daughter in CA. I am here for an extended stay.

And I love seeing pictures of your home! It gives me decorating ideas. If only I could accomplish them!
