Christmas is special to me because I love the traditions that we share with our 7 children like the special Christmas services at our church, decorating the tree, Festival of Lights, going to Grandparents, hosting Grandparents, and seeing the trains at our museum. I love watching them.
It is great to celebrate the birth of our Lord.
Becky

I think there’s something special about the traditions. It gives a sense of continuity to the year after year celebrations. Thanks for sharing yours!

We had little things from Germany that “appeared” only at Christmas. Little pinecone “Yule Tomtins”( probably spelled wrong) and as I got older, my Mom and I made a cross stitch Christmas tablecloth I still have. But there were two LPs we played: The Maquire Sisters and The Ames Brothers Christmas albums, both of which I got rid of when we sold the house, and I wish I could find again. My Dad worked for Firestone. Does anyone remember THEIR Christmas LPs?
Cara Putman says
I love the German traditions! And I bet that tablecloth is loaded with wonderful memories!
Bonnie Roof says
The most important reason for Christmas to me is the birth of the Christ Child and my salvation, next is sharing time with my family members and friends (some of whom I don’t see often during the year) and witnessing the extra amount of joy and spirit of giving witnessed during the Christmas season.
Some of my fave Christmas traditions are attending the Christmas musicals/dinner theaters at churches, driving around to view Christmas lights/decorations, attending “open houses”, viewing living nativity scenes, attending Christmas plays/dramas at the theater, reading new Christmas books, watching Christmas movies and listening to new Christmas music, attending church candlelight service. I also enjoy charitable giving and functions, however – also do them all through the year.
Cara Putman says
I’m so glad you focused first on Christ, Bonnie. Without Him there is no Christmas.

Christmas Eve candlelight service really is my favorite way to start Christmas. Christmas day after opening presents at home, we get together at my niece’s house & celebrate family.

I have many special memories of Christmas Eve services at my grandparents’ church.
Connie Saunders says
I am blessed with 2 families: my own and my husband’s so the times we can celebrate Christmas are a true blessing. The gift-giving has been scaled down tremendously but oh my, the food is to die for! As the years have passed and all of our mortalities loom closer and closer, I just praise God for these special times together.
Blessings to you and Merry Christmas!
Connie

Love that you’ve found a way to scale back the presents. We had to as well as we ended up with 10 adults and 17 grandchildren! It’s even larger when my mom’s family gets together. The key is we love being together. The presents are just a fun bonus.

Making new and sharing old memories make Xmas special, to me. We do a Yankee swap every Xmas Eve.
Cara Putman says
Nancy, what’s a Yankee swap? Is it like a White Elephant exchange?

Family makes Christmas special to me – no special traditions – just spending time together no matter where we are
Cara Putman says
I was reminded last night just how special it is to have the tradition focus on a family that loves being together. That’s a gift in itself.

We always do Operation Christmas Child Boxes as a family and we try to either bake cookies or do a gingerbread house. We also love to go to our church’s Christmas concert and out to eat at a special restaurant afterward and then to see some special Christmas light that dance with the music at a neighborhood house – we make a day of it!
Cara Putman says
My sister-in-law coordinated 139 boxes this year! Such a great organization to be active with.

What makes Christmas special for our family is that we get the opportunity to celebrate the birth of Jesus by making a cake and singing “Happy Birthday” to Him. I treasure all of our traditions, but the best part for me is finding just the right gift for each one of my loved ones and then watching their reactions opening them! Thanks for the giveaway!

Just spending time with all the relatives that we can. We spent a lot of years living overseas and could not be with parents/grandparents so these last few years since we’ve returned have been extra special.
