Cover Reveal, a Giant Giveaway, and Witemeyer Bargains

October 18, 2018 By Karen Witemeyer

Seeing a new cover for the first time is one of the biggest thrills an author can have. Or one of the biggest disappointments. Thankfully, I have never had a truly awful cover. There have been one or two I wasn’t particularly ready to do handstands over, but for the most part, I’ve loved the covers Bethany House has created for my books. And the latest is one of my favorites.

My heroine is a baker, so I knew she had to have her hands in dough, but I never dreamed they’d find such an adorable kitchen to place her in. What do you think?

Zach isn’t quite as swarthy as I would have preferred, but I’m thrilled he made it onto the cover. Abigail isn’t quite the plus-sized model I envisioned, either, but I thought they did a really clever job of masking her size by giving her a baggy apron and placing the title in a strategic location so that readers can easily imagine her a bit larger. And her dimples are perfect!

When they first showed me the cover, there was a vent in the wall that was not very time period appropriate.

But after I mentioned it, they came back in a matter of minutes with a great fix of wallpaper that highlights the gorgeous teal shades. I loved it! Those clever designers.

More Than Words Can Say is the second in the Patchwork Family series, the much-anticipated story for Zach. If you have not read More Than Meets the Eye yet, the first story in the series, it just happens to be on sale until the end of this month for only $2.99. In fact, Amazon has been selling it for only $2.39. Yay!

As it happens, two other Witemeyer titles are on sale during the month of October, as well. It’s a great time to stock up on some fall reads!

And speaking of fall reads, we are only about a week away from the giant Fall Scavenger Hunt giveaway!

Many of the Inspired By Life authors will be participating in this giant giveaway. Here is a list of the prizes being offered:

So what do you think of my new cover?

    Karen,

I adore your cover. Love the expression on her face, and that’s too funny about the vent.

Thanks, Dani! I was glad I caught the vent before the cover was finalized. It’s easy to miss those background details sometimes.

I love that you have less-than-perfect heroines! Cute cover!

      October 18, 2018 at 7:18 am

Thanks, Lynn. I had really hoped to get a plus-sized model on the cover, but I know that’s a delicate tightrope to walk between story accuracy and the fantasy readers often look for in pretending to be someone more idealized. I’d rather have a cover that entices as many readers as possible to pick it up than to miss some because they were turned off.

I love the cover. The colors are great, the kitchen is cute, and she has her hair up! Can’t wait to read Zach’s story. ☺

I love the colors, too. Teal and purple are two of my favorites, and I’ve never had those colors featured on any of my covers, so I’m really loving those shades. And you better believe I raved about that updo. Ha!

Really excited for this book – loved More Than Meets the Eye. But I agree the male pictured on the cover is not the way I pictured Zach from the first book. And the girl is adorable, but no way looks like a plus size. I remember when you had some pictures posted for The Posse, and those girls looked like attractive plus size young women. The cover is still beautiful, but it seems like the designers know nothing about the story.

      October 18, 2018 at 7:24 am

Thanks, Betty. I hope you love Zach’s story. I’m finishing the rewrites this weekend. It’s a hard balance for designers because they have to not only work with what is accurate for the story but they also have to work with what sales and marketing predict will make the cover most attractive to ALL readers. Thankfully, you and I have the power of our imaginations to create mental images that fit the characters as we read. 🙂

Love the new cover, Karen! That’s fun to see you spotted the vent! I had a modern red fire alarm on the front of the beautiful Edwardian manor house that I spotted on one of my covers. The designer removed it for me, and I was glad I spotted it. I’m reading More Than Meets the Eye now and enjoying it.

That’s the trouble with using real historic buildings/rooms that have been updated for modern conveniences and safety. Good thing your sharp eyes caught that fire alarm. 🙂 So glad you are enjoying Logan and Eva’s story.

Love the new cover! Her eyes definitely speak volumes more than words. And his mischievous grin and stance talks to me too. Love that she is actually in the kitchen working with her hands. The color of the kitchen and back ground is lovely and just highlights the baker. Love it all!

    • Karen Witemeyer says

      October 18, 2018 at 7:29 am

Thanks, Kay. I adore the expression on the heroine’s face. It’s so perfect. And you’re right about the hero’s expression, too. As you can gather from the title, he’s not much of a talker, but he definitely has his eye on her. 🙂

Well that isn’t how I pictured Zach, but I still think the cover is really cute!

    • Karen Witemeyer says

      October 18, 2018 at 9:23 am

Yes – you and I will have to imagine Zach quite a bit differently from the fellow on the cover, but I’m still happy he made an appearance even if he’s not exactly how I pictured him.

I love the cover! The kitchen is perfect. I love the models facial expression and her dimples are adorable. It is true that covers can make a big difference in sales. That’s how I was introduced to your writing. Several years ago I was at my local thrift store a saw this book in large print that had a beautiful cover. I was drawn to the young woman in a yellow dress, twirling her hair while reading a book on a porch. I knew immediately that it was a historical fiction book. So I read the back cover and decided to give it a try. After finishing Head in the Clouds I immediately looked up to see what other books you may have written. To my delight you had several others. I’m happy to say I’ve read every book you’ve published. And now I have trouble waiting for your new books to come out. Thank you for blessing us with your talent if story telling. I love your books!

Theresa – you brightened my day with that story. I love that Head in the Clouds cover. So perfect for book lovers. 🙂 Covers really do play a big role in selling the book. Your experience is a perfect example.
