Cover Reveal, Giveaway, & Spooktacular Book Deal

October 17, 2019 By Karen Witemeyer

I’m so excited to share with you the cover for the first book in my Hanger’s Horsemen series – At Love’s Command. It’s my first hero-centric cover, and I love it!

Not all of the details match the story exactly. On the cover his vest is brown when it should be cavalry blue, and his horse should be a blood roan not a sorrel, but the hero’s so rugged and gorgeous that I really don’t care.

I give you Matthew Hanger . . .

I’m nearly finished with the rewrites for this novel, and I’m looking forward to sharing this new series with you. At Love’s Command is available for pre-order and will release in June 2020. Here’s the back cover blurb:

Haunted by the horrors of war, ex-cavalry officer Matthew Hanger leads a band of mercenaries known as Hanger’s Horsemen who have become legends in 1890s Texas. They defend the innocent and obtain justice for the oppressed. But when a rustler’s bullet leaves one of them at death’s door, they’re the ones in need of saving.

Dr. Josephine Burkett is used to men taking one look at her skirts and discounting her medical skills. What she’s not used to is having a man change his mind in a heartbeat and offer to assist her in surgery. Matthew Hanger’s dedication to his friend during recovery earns Josephine’s respect, and when she hears of her brother’s abduction, he becomes her only hope for rescue.

Matt has stared down ruthless outlaws, betrayal, and injury, but when a bossy lady doctor crawls under his skin, his heart is tempted to surrender. And when she is caught in the crossfire, he may have to sacrifice everything–even his team–to save her.

And now that your western fiction appetite is whetted, here’s a great contest being offered by Bethany House.

My brand new Harvey House Brides novella collection, Serving Up Love, is part of the deal. For those who read More Than Words Can Say, this is Rosalind’s story – More Than a Pretty Face.

Big Sale

I’m also excited to let you know that Full-Steam Ahead is on sale for a crazy good price. My mad-scientist, steam-engine-exploding hero and piratical, mathematical, dagger-wielding heroine are back and on sale for only $0.99 for the e-book! (Sale ends 10/31.)

In fact, today I saw that Christianbook and Amazon both have Full Steam Ahead on sale for only $0.79! That’s just about as close to free as you can get. If you haven’t read Darius and Nicole’s story, now’s the time!

Amazon | Christianbook | Barnes & Noble

And since this is my fictional couple that is probably best suited for Halloween dress-up, I thought I’d have some fun imagining what they might look like should they decide to attend a masquerade. What do you think?

If you were going to dress up as your favorite fictional character, who would you dress up as?

Love the back cover blurb for At Love’s Command AND the hero featured on the cover! Congrats, Karen!

Thanks, Becky. It’s fun to have the hero front and center for a change. 🙂

Karen, thanks for the heads-up on the wrong details on the cover. Those things bug me! But since I know your story will be wonderful, I’ll try not to let it get to me too much. Though, while I’m reading, I might have to cover the cover in sticky notes to ignore the wrongness of it. Oh, what readers do to cope with poorly detailed covers! (This happens too often, if you ask me.)

Also, thanks for the heads-up on the e-sale for my favorite of your stories! I can’t believe I didn’t already have an e-copy of Full Steam Ahead, but I couldn’t resist that deal. Thank you! I’ll look forward to rereading it early next year.

    Happy revising!
    Andrea

You’re welcome, Andrea. I’m a stickler for details, too. As much as I want the hero to look exactly like I pictured him in my head, I know that the designers have to work within a budget and use what is available.

And I’m so glad you grabbed an e-copy of Full-Steam Ahead. Enjoy the re-read!

The cover is captivating despite the inaccuracies — though a blood roan horse would have been fantastic. Such a unique color!

The blub intrigues me. I’m looking forward to the story.

If I could dress up as a fictional character, I think I’d choose Hermione Granger. She gets to be intelligent, interesting, and beautiful mixed with a little bit of mystery and magic. How fun!

    Prayers on your revisions.

I love reading your books. I have read many of your books and look forwarding to reading this one. Looks very interesting. Since it is a series, I like to get the books as they come out and wait until I get the last book of the series then begin to read. I share my books with others and like to keep them together. At this point can you tell me how many will be in this series? If not, over time I can touch base with you to see if we are getting near the end of the series. God Bless You as you continue writing such great, interesting books.

Hi, Emogene. Hanger’s Horsemen is designed to be a 3-book series. There are four horsemen, but two of them will share a book. Each book is scheduled to release in June over the next three years, so the last one should come out in June 2022. Thank you for being such a loyal reader!

Thanks so much Rebecca. Especially for the prayers. Those are always welcome and needed. 🙂

Hermione Granger is a great pick. I love spunky nerd heroines!

Will be taking advantage of the Full Steam Ahead book! Still wish the horse could have been roan! But I will love reading it.

      October 17, 2019 at 3:46 pm

I hear you, Paula. Me, too. But he’ll be a beautiful roan in our minds as we read. There are many other horses in the book, as you can imagine, so I’m sure that is not actually Matt’s horse on the cover, but one belonging to an outlaw or townsperson. 🙂

Your next book sounds like another wonderful story. I will be looking for it in the next months.
If I would dress up I would probably dress up as Abigail in More Than Words Can Say since she is such a strong personality in spite of her crazy man oriented world.
Also she probably gets to wear comfortable clothes in the bakery.😁

Great choice, Jen! I agree with you on all counts. Plus I really like her purple shirtwaist. 🙂

    Thanks for the update!
I was reminded of your novella “Love on the Mend” with Jacob Sadler meeting his match in Mollie Tate. (Jacob is a young boy in “Full Steam Ahead”) Like Dr. Josephine Burkett, Mollie is underestimated with her medical skills.
Looking forward to reading “Serving Up Love” when it’s released.
