Favorite Beverage (whether hot or cold): Coffee! But I’m a bit of a coffee snob. I prefer a premium coffee and, if it’s not a latte, an americano. I can drink it almost any way—hot, cold, latte, black (but not cheap coffee!), and or with just milk or cream. To that end, my husband gave me this amazing automatic espresso machine a couple of years ago, and I love it so much! 


Favorite Color (and why): Blue. Any shade. I’ve always loved it. I’m not sure why. Although I do think blue is calming for me. But in my early years of marriage, blue wasn’t “in” as a decor color. But twenty years ago we purchased a house with beautiful blue and white floral wallpaper in the kitchen and breakfast nook. Ever since then, I’ve chosen blue when decorating. My current house has a lot of blue accents, and they make me happy.

Favorite Thing You Collect: I try not to collect much of anything these days, but that doesn’t apply to books! And yes, I “collect” them. I love owning books, especially ones that have meant something to me or my husband. I especially love finding copies of books printed in the 19th and early 20th centuries or first additions of special books to add to my collection.

Inspired by novelist Eugenia Price, D’Ann’s dream of writing historical fiction with an element of faith began in middle school, though her serious drive toward publication took a bit longer. D’Ann is the author of four historical novels and one novella, as well as a contemporary short stories in a compilation volume. D’Ann and her husband of 30 years can be found in Austin, TX when they aren’t touring historic sites or visiting their grown children.

  1. I love your old books collection! I have the same though maybe not as big as your collection. I just love knowing that multiple people have likely read the book over decades.

    1. I do too! There’s something really wonderful about owning a book others have owned before you.

  2. Hot chocolate with marshmallows in the cool months, cold milk in summer.
    Blue and yellow are tied – blue because it is calming and can be a deep rich hue, yellow because it is hopeful and cheery.
    China tea cups with saucers – started with those handed down from grandma, ladybugs in all art mediums, and old books as well.

  3. Oh wow! I see that you collect Grace Livingston Hill books! I used to do so but they are getting harder to find. The gospel message in her books are what led me to Christ. I am thankful for her 🥰
