Deb’s Favorites

February 9, 2025 By Deborah Raney

The authors of Inspired by Life…and Fiction are offering a new weekly post featuring some of our favorite things. We hope you enjoy getting to know a little more about us—and we’d love to hear your answers to these “favorites” questions in the comments below.

Favorite Holiday: Valentine’s Day. It’s been my favorite since I was a little girl, and I’ve started leaving our Christmas tree up with a pink heart theme until after Valentine’s Day.

Favorite Vacation Spot: St. Simons and Jekyll Islands. I’m setting my next novel there and can’t wait to go on a research trip!

Favorite Dessert: Cream Puff Dessert. I’m always a fan of creamy, pudding-type desserts, and this one is super easy to make. The recipe is HERE.

Deborah Raney

DEBORAH RANEY's first novel, A Vow to Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title and launched Deb’s writing career. Forty books later, she's still creating stories that touch hearts and lives. Her novels have won RWA's RITA Award, the ACFW Carol Award, the National Readers Choice Award, and the HOLT Medallion. She is also a three-time Christy Award finalist. Deb is on faculty for several national writers’ conferences and served on the executive board of the 2,500-member American Christian Fiction Writers organization for 18 years before retiring in 2022. She is a recent transplant to Missouri, having moved with her husband, Ken Raney, from their native Kansas to be closer to kids and grandkids. They love road trips, e-biking, Friday garage sale dates, and breakfast on the screened porch overlooking their wooded backyard.

That dessert looks scrumptious and your research trip sounds like such fun. I love that area. So pretty! Looking forward to crossing paths with you soon!

Favorite holiday: I guess I would have to say mine is Valentine’s Day also. I think it’s because I love to send cards and Valentine’s are a great way to say I love you.

    Favorite Vacation spot: Easy. England.

Favorite Dessert: Cold stone Creamery cakes! A birthday must!

I really like your idea of leaving your Christmas tree up with a pink heart theme until after Valentine’s Day.

Oh, my! Do I dare admit that we’re leaving on a trip soon and I was too lazy to take the tree down so I switched out the hearts for Easter eggs! Now I’ll be all ready for Easter when we get home. Haha! 🙂
