Two and a half years ago, we moved from a house just outside our small town’s city limits, to the big city of Wichita. We’re four minutes from Starbucks, Chipotle, and all kinds of civilization. I never expected to have a veritable zoo in our backyard in the city! But we do. And it provides so much entertainment every day. The latest is our family of ducks who visit several times a day to glean from the overflow of the bird feeder.
The babies are as big as their mama now, but the little family still sticks together.
We have become avid bird watchers, squirrel watchers, goose watchers, bunny watchers. We’ve even “raised” a clutch of mourning doves in the hanging basket on our front porch. What fun that was!
We’ve seen deer in the park behind our house a couple of times, and twice we’ve had wild coywolves (coyote-wolf hybrid) pass through our yard.
We always just hope the ducks and coywolves don’t visit at the same time!
What are your favorite sights from the windows where you live?

How fun for you, Deborah! I love to see wildlife, too–but not when they get into my garden and eat all our vegetables before we do. I guess I should plant extra for them next year.

I’m afraid if you planted more, more would come! I’ve felt fortunate that not so much as a bug has bothered my very first tomato plant. I suspect the squirrels DID help themselves to the few strawberries I got in my strawberry pot. But I still enjoy the leaves, and I did get to eat a handful of them. 🙂

When I was young, my grandparents had a cabin in the Southern California mountains. We were always excited to watch the squirrels that lived around the cabin. So much so, that we’d line the porch rail with chopped nuts to try to entice them up close for a snack.
Nowadays, looking out the windows of our home in north Dallas, I can see more squirrels in one morning than I could see in a week at that cabin. 🙂

Isn’t that funny!? Perspective changes everything, huh? 😉

From my window on the 9th floor, I watch school children playing at recess and flag football games. In the winter I can see them making snow on the local ski hill. I see cars coming down the hill on the interstate as they get close to town. At night I love the lights coming down the hill.

Oh! A 9th floor window offers SO much! I could almost see it all, Nancy! Thanks for sharing!

Isn’t God good? He is replacing so many cool things for you to enjoy. A bit of the country you left behind. My daughter raises ducks. I think she got that love from me—one of my favorite creatures. I once had a goat who thought the duck was it’s mother when my daughter was little. But we are still traveling in our RV time to time and what seems like even a desolate place, we have had hummingbirds squirrels and dragonflies even in the drought her in CA.

We have had some deer and turkeys in our yard, as well as the neighbors’ cats (of course!) and Canadian geese in the fall. As for other birds, we love watching the goldfinches, the occasional hummingbird, mourning doves, and just this morning I watched a couple of pairs of cedar waxwings. One fall we even had a pair of swans that hung out in the cornfield across the road for almost a month.

Oh! Swans would be amazing to watch! Thanks for sharing!

Wow – – lots of wildlife for you to enjoy, Deb! 🙂 Enjoyed your photos.
I feed the birds and squirrels (okay, and numerous stray cats, too) 😉 on our deck.
But these days much of my time is spent at my computer, on the front of our house. I have a nice window right beside my desk where I can enjoy my lovely Elm tree, which always has birds and squirrels visiting the branches.
This past Mother’s Day, my son gave me a “window bird feeder” and he attached it to the window that’s next to my desk. I LOVE seeing the birds fly up to get some seed. My kitty Susanna has claimed a spot in this window, and she gets VERY excited when a bird visits, LOL.

Sounds like I would LOVE your window, Patti Jo! Thanks for painting such a great picture for us! 🙂

I see dolphins, pelicans and seagulls all day long. Love that. I have a favorite heron who loves to visit our dock. And the mullet like to jump and scare me!
Always fun on the bay.
Lovely pictures, Deb!
