Early Christmas Decorating

November 19, 2025 By D'Ann Mateer

I did a thing this weekend—I decorated for Christmas!

Now, mind you, I have never, ever decorated this early before, mostly because I usually wait until after Jeff’s birthday in early December. But since he’s out of town on a mission trip right now, and when he returns, we only have a couple of days to get ready for a trip with our kids over Thanksgiving, and then there is a weekend full of Christmas parties in early December when we return, this seemed like the best (and maybe only!) time to get it done.

I don’t do a ton of decorating, but I do like to change out my seasonal stuff above my TV/fireplace and put up the tree and stockings. I have a couple of winter/Christmas throw pillows, blankets, and kitchen towels. And mugs. I switched out most of the mugs for Christmas ones!

The nativity is set up, the one my daughter brought me home from one of her trips to Ghana when she was in high school. And the garland is hung, ready to clip on the Christmas cards we receive. Now I just need to secure the coat rack that holds the stockings, and we’re good to go!

I do love the lights in my living room on these early dark days.

Have you decorated for Christmas yet? When do you usually do that?

Love seeing your decorations, D’Ann. Yes, our tree is already up! I love the lights and warmth it gives as you do. Blessings to your fam and so happy y’all will all be together!

Your house looks so nice all decked out for Christmas, D’Ann. Ken has a December birthday too, but it’s at the end of the month, so the tree is often already taken down by then. I do like to put the tree up before Thanksgiving so the house looks festive when the kids are here. Since we usually have our Christmas at one of the kids’ houses, Thanksgiving is the holiday my grandkids get to see my holiday decorations. I think Nov. 9 is the earliest I’ve ever put my decorations up but it’s usually the week before Thanksgiving.

I love that Thanksgiving is when your kids see your Christmas decorations! I’ve always worked hard to keep the separate holidays separate, but the older I get the less I care about that!

Love the cabinets around your TV/fireplace so custom and pretty. I’m one of those who NEVER decorates before Thanksgiving, but I had to do so this year because I’m traveling to Colorado for a wedding the weekend after Thanksgiving and knew I’d be too exhausted when I got home to do so. Then I would have to turn around a few days later and take it all back down. It’s nice now that it’s all up, but sweating in the warmer TN temps with the ceiling fan going full tilt did not reflect cozy warm Christmas feelings.

I hear you! We are in the 80s in Texas, so decorating didn’t feel so cozy. And it’s hard to listen to songs about snow when you are sweating! 😂

I don’t normally do it until after Thanksgiving, but am considering doing it this weekend as I’ll have family visiting next weekend for Thanksgiving.

How fun to have family coming for Thanksgiving! It will be nice for you to have it done and not try to do it when you are tired from company.

Looks good, D’ann! I won’t get anything put up until after my 12/1 deadline. 🙂 Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving.
