I first read Christy as a fifth grader. (Yes, it has some mature subject matter, but it’s very tastefully handled.) The book captured me like no story had since Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books. I’ve since read Christy at least two more times, and it remains in my Top 5 all-time favorite novels list. I tried to read Christy once but I was around 16 or so and I found I couldn’t get past the first few chapters it was to hard for me. Then I was the 12 year old who found Anne of Green Gables to old for my reading age also. I did however love the movie and mini series of Christy. I think some of the older books are ageless. Pollyanna is another (now that one I could read).
I bet if you tried Christy again, you’d really enjoy it now. And yay for Pollyanna! 🙂
