If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, then you already know that my friend Katie Ganshert and I are embroiled in a hard-fought ‘Fall Pinterest War’. We’re currently 3 weeks into a 4 week long war. Each Monday, we find an enticing pin on Pinterest. (Typically either a craft, a photo, a beauty tip, or a recipe.) Then we both attempt the challenge. We post our results on Fridays and invite readers to vote on my Facebook page and Katie’s to let us know who they think did it best. On Sundays, we tally the votes and announce the winner of the challenge.
Between you and me, I usually win. Which is only fair since, in my opinion, I’m usually most deserving. 😉 On Sundays, we also select one winner from among all the women who voted and award her a prize.
Katie and I have been holding our Pinterest Wars biannually since the spring of 2013. New this year: Facebook Live ‘Behind the Scenes of the Pinterest Wars’ videos that give readers a look at what it really takes to make the wars happen.
Of all the things I do on social media, readers seem to enjoy the Pinterest Wars most. I think they like seeing regular (not especially crafty) people try to mimic what talented people have accomplished. And I think they like voting for a chance to win a prize. When I attend conferences or reader events it’s not uncommon for someone to spot me, blink, and say, “Oh! You’re the one who does the Pinterest Wars!”
Here’s a peek at what we’ve tackled so far in our Fall War…
For our first challenge, we took on a Cheesecloth Ghost:
Here were our results:
In the above graphic, the fuzzy beige #1 ghost belongs to me. Katie beat me with bright, white ghost #2. Rightly so. I didn’t do justice to my ghost with that picture. What can I say? I had to rush out the door for a parade that morning at my daughter’s school. It was dark outside and dim inside and I didn’t spend as much time as I should have on photography.
For our second challenge, we convinced our friend, author Nicole Deese, to partake in the embarrassment fun. We tried to imitate this family photo:
Here were our results:
Some of us [not named Katie] have big kids who are surprisingly difficult to lift! Nicole and I muscled through on mom power and I’m happy to report that I brought home the win.
This past week, Katie and I attempted a Mad for Plaid fingernail decoration:
Who did it best? I encourage you to swing by my Facebook Page and vote for a chance to win a B&N gift card! Voting will continue until Sunday afternoon.
What do you use Pinterest for? Have you failed or nailed something you discovered there lately?
p.s. Before I go, I wanted to let you know that Love in the Details, my e-novella, is currently on sale for just 99 cents. Click the below graphic to be taken to links to the story. TGIF! Happy weekend, everyone.

Hi Becky, I tried to buy your book Love in the Details for the price of $ 0,99, which should be around € 1,00 in Europe, but unfortunately the E-book cost at Amazon(.nl) € 2,59 and at Kobo € 3,17. Both in European prizes but not as cheap as you mentioned. I know it is not your fault, but I thought you should know.
I love your books and I keep on asking Dutch publishers to translate your books in Dutch.
Becky Wade says
Sorry about that, Annette! I wish that American ebook sales were available to readers everywhere.
Thanks for reading my books and for asking Dutch publishers to translate them! I really appreciate that. I’ve heard from other authors that there are lots of Dutch booksellers and readers who support Christian fiction. I’d love to have my books available in Dutch!

Your Pinterest Wars are always so fun, Becky! Such a creative idea and always good for a smile.

They’re good for a smile for me, too, Karen. Katie and I chat and laugh about them all week long behind the scenes. 😉

I posted this last week, but wasn’t sure if you saw it or not, so wanted to re-post here “Sorry….totally off topic, but I just noticed your new picture. Love the soft waves in your hair and have necklace envy over that stunning turquoise piece. Again, I apologize for totally hijacking the comments, but you look fantastic!”
Becky Wade says
I hadn’t seen the above comment the last time! Bless you for trying again, because you’ve brightened my day, Amy. 🙂 Thank you! My new author photos were taken by Emilie at E.A. Creative Photography. She’s so friendly and talented.
I’ve taken to using a ‘Kiss Instawave’ curling iron on my hair. I love it because it doesn’t take long at all. I’ll curl my hair the morning of day #1. Put my hair up in a top knot for sleep. Wake up on day #2, brush out the curls, and go. They’re looser the second day — but I’m able to get TWO DAYS of hair styling out of one quick hair curling session. A time saver!

OK – I’ve been looking for a new hairstyling tool, and you just sold me, Becky. I think I’m going to order one. 🙂

I haven’t nailed or failed anything from Pinterest YET! I am planning on doing some of the scrabble art that I’ve seen on there though. I will be making them into Christmas gifts. They will be made into the names of family members and things related to the family.

What a cute gift idea, Trish!
