Hi, friends!
Happy Wednesday. Excited to be back with you. Most readers generally know me as a suspense writer. One who writes the books that hopefully keep you up at night and your door locked ☺ Some know me as a romantic suspense writer, where it’s a combination of the two, but typically, the romance comes second in most readers’ eyes. But, to me, the romance is just as pivotal, if not more so, to me as both a writer and a reader.
I fell in love with not just romance years ago, but by reading about the actual act of falling in love. I even love the term “falling.” Because with true love, you are truly falling. Everything else diminishes somehow, and your world changes. Turns upside down, really.
You fall and hope the man catches you and holds you forever.

I first fell in love with romance by reading the master (in my humble opinion), Jane Austen.

I read Pride & Prejudice every Christmas. It’s my special winter tradition. I make a mug of hot cocoa and top it with marshmallows or whipped cream (such a difficult decision every time), then I grab a warm throw and curl up on the couch by the cozy fire. I love the tradition, especially when it’s snowing outside, but it’s the love I find in the pages of Austen’s book, in the so-real-to-life characters of Elizabeth and Darcy that keeps my attention raptured.

My current watch over and over until my family is sick of it is the 2022 version of Persuasion on Netflix with Cosmo Jarvis. Who can’t love Wentworth?

I think it’s why I love reading so many different genres. Because all the ones I read have romance at their heart. And, speaking of true romance, today is my youngest daughter, Kayla, and her husband Brian’s third wedding anniversary, so I’m sending a special congrats out to them. True love stories are the very best.

Question: What is your favorite romance novel or film?
Blessings,
Dani

Happy 3rd Wedding Anniversary to your daughter and her husband, Dani—and what a fun post. I don’t think I’ve seen that version of Persuasion (will double check to be sure), but a favorite go-to Jane movie is Sense and Sensibility. The 1995 version written by and starring Emma Thompson. What a stellar cast. Alan Rickman was a longtime fav ever since seeing him in Truly, Madly, Deeply years earlier.
Hi Tammy,
I LOVE Sense and Sensibility too. That version is my favorite. Hard not to love Alan Rickman in that.
Definitely Pride and Prejudice. The misunderstanding, the way Darcy helps without expecting anything in return. And then Elizabeth falling is so romantic. Love, love, love that story.
I’m right there with you. Such a wonderful story.
That ‘hand flex’ as well as the walk through the fog in Pride and Prejudice get me. Every. Single. Time.
Those are my two favorite parts as well. I mean, how can you not love the fog scene. Oh my! 🙂
Ever After….I love the characters and the story in that movie. If a man showed me a library like that he would have me 🙂
Oh that’s a wonderful one I’d forgotten all about. Might have to pull that one back out. Thanks for sharing.
Sommersby but I did like the ending comes to mind Richards Gere and Jodie Foster
That’s a powerful movie!
I’m torn between P&P and Jane Eyre. I’ve watched every version on film and read both novels. My latest favorite mini series is Sarah M. Eden’s Seeking Persephone. As you might guess, the classics and historical fiction are my first love. I can’t imagine writing a novel that doesn’t include a love story in it.
I’m excited for you daughter and her husband celebrating their 3rd anniversary. As parents, it’s a joy to watch our children love well.
Jane Eyre. LOVE it too.
Aww. Thank you!

My current obsession is the book/movie Seeking Persephone! It’s incredible and I think you would love it!
Oh, thanks for the recommendation. I’ll definitely check it out.
Yes to the 1995 Sense & Sensibility! And the soundtrack is wonderful!
Oh that is a wonderful soundtrack and such a lovely movie!
Pride and Prejudice is also my fave. Pure brilliance!
Brooke and Noah from The Deadly Shadows are one of my favourites. I love romance with my suspense.
