Fishing, anyone?

June 7, 2022 By Tamera Alexander

Do you like to fish? I do. I’m not great at it by any means, but Joe and I recently went deep sea fishing with some good friends, and we had a blast! AND CAUGHT TONS OF FISH!

We brought them all home, too, and are planning a fish fry for our community group sometime soon.

But even if we hadn’t caught anything, just being on the water is so beautiful. Dolphins were following the boat as we left the harbor, the sun was coming up, the briny salt water was frizzing my hair. What’s not to love? : ) Sharing that experience—and the laughter—with friends is a taste of heaven.

Joe and I headed down to the beach for a very quick walk

In addition to fishing, we also managed to fit in some history while in 30A in Florida by visiting Eden Gardens Mansion and State Park. Just look at this place…

It’s stunning! Drink in the live oaks and grounds. Talk about God’s handiwork on display.

About Eden Gardens State Park (from their website)—

The park contains approximately 163 acres of land that was part of the historic Wesley homestead. In a setting of moss-draped live oaks, the 1897 mansion recalls a prosperous era before the virgin forests of longleaf pine and cypress were exhausted in this part of the state. The mansion, surrounded by lawns and gardens, has been restored and furnished with remarkable antiques. A reflection pool provides a glimpse back into time as camellias and azaleas provide colorful accents in the surrounding gardens.

We had a wonderful time fishing and sightseeing, but the best part of the trip, by far, was the laughter and late night/early morning conversation with friends. And the food wasn’t bad either! 😉

Are you fellow fisherwoman? Or live oak & history lover? What are some special places you’ve visited that you would definitely recommend to others? Sites with historical significance get extra points in my book. ; )

Blessings from Nashville,

Tammy

We had a family vacation on 30A last month, and the men went fishing and caught a lot as you did. I agree Eden State Park is beautiful. It somewhat reminds me of Savannah. Another beautiful place to visit and my favorite place for history. Thanks for the giveaway offer of the beautiful necklace.

How fun that you were at 30A too, Harriet. It was our first time to visit that specific area of FL. I’d been to Destin years ago but not Watercolor or Rosemary Beach. And you’re so welcome on the necklace. I love Dear Mushka!

Oh, I love a wrap-around porch… but to have one on two levels? Yes, Please! I love visiting historic homes. I’m surrounded by historical significance since I live outside of Philadelphia. Fairmount Park has some beautiful homes that I’ve toured and would recommend. I was texting with my niece last night (who moved to the city this weekend) about hiking in Valley Forge this summer. I recently read When the Day Comes by Gabrielle Meyer and feel the need to visit Williamsburg, VA now. Reading historical fiction always gives me the travel bug – to see some of these places that I’ve not yet been and learn some more history.

What fun, Tammy! We visited Oak Alley Plantation near New Orleans last year and the live oak trees there were spectacular.

Becky, Oak Alley is one of my favorites among the old plantations I’ve visited. It is a popular place for weddings, and it’s easy to see why.

Gorgeous! I would love to visit some place like this. It’s quite a drive from the Pacific Northwest though…

    Hi Tamara,
You were in my neck of the woods! I live just across the bay from 30A and Destin. Eden Gardens is truly beautiful and a great place to set a book I’m thinking. It’s relatively new, since it doesn’t date back to the Civil War, however the setting does. I understand relatives of the original owners still live in the area.
My husband and I enjoy fishing, but normally in fresh water. We hope to celebrate my birthday this summer by going deep sea fishing though.

I grew up fishing on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga with my dad. Even baited my own hooks at four-years-old with worms. We went deep sea fishing a few times but after a trip where I was hanging over the side or the toilet the entire time, I decided that wasn’t for me.
