Get a Move On

May 13, 2019 By Deborah Raney

My husband’s nephew who is a pitcher for a college baseball team in North Carolina, just happened to be playing in a series here in Wichita over Mother’s Day weekend. Thanks to Zach, we had a little Raney family reunion at our house and it was a blast!

From Friday night’s game until Mother’s Day night, we had a revolving door of various nieces and nephews and in-laws and outlaws (as Ken would say. 😉 ) So great to see everyone and get to spend time together as a family.

We talked several times about how MUCH fun we managed to pack into a few short days. There was a lot of eating involved…

We took Ken’s mom to breakfast at Home Grown on Saturday for an early Mother’s Day. Mom treated us all to supper at Cheddar’s Saturday after the game.

I made lasagna and French bread Friday night and a Mexican dinner Sunday night. And in between, we had ballpark hotdogs, sunflower seeds, kolaches, blackberry cobbler, ice cream, candy, popcorn, chips and salsa, and all kinds of other goodies.
The only reason we didn’t all just explode is because in between we MOVED! We walked in the rain at our local nature center…
We walked and played games at a new Chicken and Pickle that opened in Wichita recently.
We watched MORE baseball (although it was mostly our mouths that got exercised here.)
We rode bikes till sunset on a gorgeous Kansas evening.
And we discovered pickleball! It is So. Much. Fun! In fact, as you read this, we’re probably back on the court playing one last game before the last of the family heads home today!

I am so blessed to have married into a wonderful family that knows how to have fun together.

I’d love to know: what are YOUR favorite activities to do with family? Do share! Maybe we’ll discover another way to burn off all the calories we ate this weekend!

Thanks Betty. We packed a LOT of fun into a few short days! Ken’s sister and her husband live in California so we don’t see them nearly often enough! It’s been wonderful!

It really was a memorable weekend. Sad to say goodbye to the last of the family this morning. 🙁

I loved seeing your photos of the time with your family. I especially love those Raney Day Trippin shirts!
As a family, we enjoy camping, hiking, boating, and riding our horses.

Boating is something I think I’d really enjoy and something we don’t get to do as much of here in landlocked Kansas! Ken designed the Raney Day Trippin’ shirts and we do love wearing them!

❤️❤️❤️❤️ I loved your post, Deb! It’s great to see those familiar faces having such fun! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
We enjoy playing kickball, basketball (nothing fancy, just games like “PIG”), hide and seek, and/or video and board games with our growing nephews. UNO attack has recently been the favorite as the whole family can play!

Love your comment, too, Jennifer! I don’t think we’ve discovered UNO Attack yet! Thanks for the tip!
