Today I thought I’d do something different and give you a little look into one of the other hats I wear. By day, I’m a full time lecturer at Purdue University, a job I absolutely adore. I feel most alive when I’m teaching and writing. So here’s a video I made this week on Facebook that shares a bit about what I’m reading right now for that job. I didn’t include the Corporate Governance textbook. You can thank me for that later 😉
I’m also including a couple fun giveaways I’m doing right now. The first is for the new Guidepost series Tricia Goyer and I are writing on. The other is for Canteen Dreams as an audio book. Be sure to enter. You’ll see that the entries overlap quite a bit!
I’m headed to New York City today for Thrillerfest. I’m looking forward to my first real trip of more than a couple hours in the city. You may just hear my squeals as I potentially fangirl some of my favorite authors like Lisa Gardner and Lisa Scottolini. I’ll also be on a panel. I’ll let you know how that goes next time. Have a fantastic week!

A hammock sounds delightful!

I like to read on my bed propped up with pillows. It’s quieter.

I almost want to ask: what’s quiet? It’s such a rare commodity at my house 🙂

Reading and enjoying Canteen Dreams!
Cara Putman says
You just made my morning, Linda! Would you be willing to leave a review when you’re finished? It’s so helpful for authors.
Rebecca Maney says
I am not entering the giveaway, but was interested to learn that you are a Purdue faculty member. My aunt is a retired dean of students and my uncle a retired professor, so I have grown up hearing all about Purdue and visited the campus when I was a young child.
I enjoy your books and look forward to many more!
Cara Putman says
Wow! Small world. I love teaching at Purdue. I have to constantly remind myself I’m an alum, too, since that’s where I obtained my MBA.
Linda Horin says
I have had a hard time liking audio books because I like to hold a book in my hand, but I have had trouble with my eyes, many surgeries, and am beginning to lose some eyesight, so I’m adjusting to them. My favorite audio book is the Bible!
Cara Putman says
Linda, I’m so sorry about your eyesight. That’s a personal fear of mine. Audio books can be an adjustment. I’ve found they help me slow down and really hear the words and writing. I also like them for non fiction.
Linda Horin says
My favorite place to read is in bed or in my comfy chair outside or at the beach.
Cara Putman says
I’m always tempted to take a nap if I read in bed.
Kay Garrett says
My favorite place to read has to be on my front porch. We just recently moved into our dream home in a place we absolutely love – the Ozark Mountains. It’s a historical piece of property that had two 1853 large stone fireplaces that we incorporated into the stone home we built. It has a large covered porch across the front that has nice views (great views in the fall and winter when the trees lose their leaves so you can see it all :o). I’d rather be no place else to be reading a good book.
Cara Putman says
Kay, that sounds wonderful! How delightful that you’ve found your dream home in your dream location.
Melanie Backus says
My favorite place to read is in bed or my comfy chair.
Cara Putman says
Love me a comfy chair. I dream of getting a fainting couch for reading.
Cheryl H. says
I can read almost anywhere, but my favorite places to settle with a good book is my front porch rocker.
Cara Putman says
I do wish we had a front porch for rockers. Our back patio is a nice location though.
Anne L. Rightler says
My favorite place to read in the summer is on the swing on my deck. Otherwise in my bedroom, like someone else mentioned, it’s quieter there. (Just lock the door to keep the grands out–I don’t really but I could!) Have a great time in NY. Thank you for the giveaway…love audiobooks!
Anne L. Rightler says
I think my favorite audiobooks are the Mitford series…John McDonough does a fantastic job of narrating. Another one that amazed me early on in my listening journey was Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Not sure who the narrator was but I had to look to see if there was only one narrator, he (or she) did an amazing job of giving each character their own distinct voice. Audio books are wonderful. When I realized I could do two of my favorite things at once (knitting or cross stitching AND read a book) I was in heaven!
Cara Putman says
Oh, I’ll have to look for the Mitford series. The gal who did Jenny B. Jones’ In Between series is fabulous.
Rosalyn says
favorite audio book-well, I haven’t listened to too many yet, but one I really liked was Trial by Twelve by Heather Day Gilbert
favorite place to read – curled up on my fave chair in the living room, with a cup of coffee close by.
Cara Putman says
Both sound great!
Rita Wray says

Cara Putman says
I’m often too tempted to try to nap if I read there. 🙂
Jennifer Hibdon says
Lately I have been reading curled up in my bed. I haven’t listened to audio books. I like the feel of a book in my hand, but reading on the kindle or phone has been enjoyable, also!
Cara Putman says
I much prefer paper books as well. I love the feel and knowing where I am in the reading.
Gail Hollingsworth says
I love reading outside if the bugs will leave me alone. Also right before I go to sleep at night.

My favorite place to read now is my recliner. When I was a teen, it was up a tree.

How adventuresome! My teen would read in a tree, too, if we had a climbing tree.
Jeanie Dannheim says
Have a wonderful time in the Big Apple! It sounds like an exciting group you are attending. I bet there will many people there who are looking forward to meeting you as a well published Christian suspense author!
Jeanie Dannheim says
Oops! I should always read the entry before commenting. My favorite place to read is in a hot bubble bath. It’s like a vacation place. Favorite audio book? I don’t have one yet…
Cara Putman says
Thanks, Jeanie. I’m excited!
Beverly Duell-Moore says
I don’t really have a favorite place to read. Anyplace is great with me. I even read in the car going to the store (Of course, when I’m not driving!) just ten minutes away!
Cara Putman says
Take advantage of every moment, right!
Janet Estridge says
My favorite place to read is where ever I happen to be at the moment. I always carry a book with me when I’m away from the house.
My very, very, favorite place to read is at the beach, but, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
Cara Putman says
I do love that with ebooks I can always carry a book without taking up a lot of room. Makes my bag lighter!
Debora Wilder says
I hope you have a wonderful trip. This is a wonderful blog post. Thanks for the giveaways.
Debora Wilder says
I have to start remembering to look and see if a specific question was asked for the “Leave a Blog Comment” on giveaways.
I love eBooks especially for the really long books because then I don’t have to deal with the extra weight of the book. I have arthritis in both hands and it can become difficult. The ease of taking my library with me in eBook format is fantastic.
Pam K. says
My favorite place to read is on my love seat in my living room, but I’ll read just about anywhere. Thanks for the book giveaways. It will be interesting to hear about your trip when you return.
Debora Wilder says
I pretty much read anywhere that I am. The place I read the most these days in with my feet up in my recliner. I’m only 5’4″ tall and it took some work to find one that didn’t overwhelm me. It is just the right size and my husband thinks it is too small so he rarely gets in it.
Arletta says
Ugh! I don’t have a favourite because I don’t listen to audio books. I would love to but I don’t have an ipod, iphone or mp3 player! 🙁 I guess I’ll have to put one of those items on my Christmas list.
Arletta says
I read anywhere. I take my kindle along with me ALL the time cuz there is nothing worse than sitting in a waiting room with only outdated magazines (that wouldn’t interest you even if they were recent) to keep you company. My three daughters all take books along with them wherever they go also. My husband is very used to very quiet road trips with all four of us burying our noses deep within the pages of our current read.

The Walk by Richard Paul Evans

I love your books and also enjoy audio books. I would very much like to hear the audio version of Canteen Dreams.
Have a safe journey to New York and back.

I haven’t listened to any audio books. I do read some books on my kindle but prefer a hard copy to hold in my hand.

My favorite place to read is my recliner.
Melissa Romine says
I read anywhere and everywhere, but I like to curl up in my big comfy chair or on a corner of the couch in my living room!
I haven’t listened to a great number of audiobooks, but I really enjoyed Unbroken. It certainly kept my attention!
Amanda says
I’ve claimed one end of the couch and an end table for myself. I currently have 9 books stacked there. 🙂
Since it is summer, I often read by the pool while the kids swim.
