  1. My daughter and I were just talking this morning about the differences between my high school experience and hers. I can relate to everything you mentioned (except the graduation teas–we didn’t have those out in California). I loved this post!Oh, how things have changed.

  2. I love this! Although I’m a’77 grad myself, I grew up just north of you so you’d think we’d have a few high school traditions in common, especially something as festive as an Aloha party. My mom hosted a graduation lunch for me and my close friends, but sadly, no leis were present.

  3. I grew up in the ’80s and ’90s and remember some of those electronics in later versions/models! Electronic typewriters were on their way out in the 1990s as more desktop PCs came on the market. Answering machines got smaller and didn’t need cassettes then were gone by the 2000s.

  4. I am 10 years younger than you. When I graduated, the Internet was in its infancy. My parents bought a word processor when I was in high school that literally only did word processing, but it was a step up from a typewriter. At least then we could type our school papers and print them without having to go to my mom’s office to use her work computer. Quite a few business people had pagers back then. Most watches were strictly for telling time (and maybe the date). I was a computer science major in college and we turned in our programs on 3.5” floppy discs. Now my college son submits EVERYTHING electronically—and he’s not a computer science major. Remember dial-up modems? Teachers/professors actually wrote on chalk boards. (Does anybody still have chalk boards these days?) I know there’s more.
