How Early Is Too Early for Christmas Books? + Giveaway: Guest Post By Jill Kemerer
The leaves have barely changed colors. My winter coat has not made an appearance. The furnace? Off as it should be.
But the TBR pile? It’s stacked with Christmas books. And I am loving them!
It’s never too early to read a Christmas book. I always gravitate to romance novels. There’s something wonderful about falling in love against a backdrop of Christmas trees, surprise snowfalls, baking cookies, and celebrating the birth of Jesus. Every year I find a new favorite novel to add to my collection.
If I’m not reading a romance set during the holidays, I’m revisiting a classic. Think A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Little Women by Charlotte Bronte, or A Miracle on 34th Street by Valentine Davies. I also enjoy watching the various film adaptations of these classic books, but I don’t watch holiday movies until November.
Would it shock you to know I write a Christmas romance novel every year? I have a new book coming out on September 29th, and it’s my twelfth Christmas novel with Love Inspired. Twelve romances for the twelve days of Christmas? Hmm…
His First Country Christmas is the third book in my Wyoming Inheritance series, which follows the six Hudson cousins as they find purpose and love on Hudson Ranch in fictional Fairwood, Wyoming. This book features Meena Hudson, the most creative and outgoing of the group. She’s fed up with her remote job as an interior design consultant and looking for hands-on work as a lead designer. Torn between wanting to live near her family and wanting to advance her career, she begins applying for jobs, but they’re all in major cities.
Colton Brassard arrives in Fairwood after purchasing nearby Oasis Ranch to be the new headquarters for his online legal company, and the workaholic single dad needs the old cabins renovated ASAP. Colton makes Meena an offer she can’t refuse—creative license and a huge budget if she can finish the renovations by the beginning of January. As she works on the cabins and continues her job search, her heart goes out to five-year-old Tyler, Colton’s isolated little boy. Meena spends time with lonely Tyler every afternoon and makes it her mission to help Colton engage with his son. The quiet city man and saucy country girl will have to reevaluate their dreams to learn what’s truly important before Christmas.

“You left your cave.”
Meena’s jaw dropped as if Colton had been in hiding for a decade. She held a box of Christmas bulbs in one hand and angled her neck to the tree. “What do you think?”
Tyler ran up to him. “I want to put the star on top, but I can’t reach.”
Colton picked Tyler up. “What if I hoist you up there? Could you reach it then?”
“Yes!”
“Deal. The star goes on last, though. We have to finish decorating the tree first.” He set the boy down again and drifted closer to Meena, catching a whiff of her perfume and wanting to stay close to her. “What can I do?”
“Wait. You’re helping us?” She made an exaggerated head turn, right then left. “During business hours?”
“I’ve cleared my schedule for the rest of the day.” Should he check his email? Make sure none of the departments had questions?
She narrowed her eyes. “No phone calls? No emergencies you have to deal with?”
“I hope not.” He couldn’t help feeling sheepish at her playful skepticism. She had a point. He dealt with emergencies every day.

My favorite Christmas book is Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and yes, I have read the book and watch different movie versions every year!
I love that one, too! The Patrick Stewart film version is my favorite!
I only read Christmas themed books in Nov-Dec, but now is the time I am stacking my kindle with them to get ready for that!

I’ll read a Christmas book all year long. I love a good book about a snowy winter storm and a homeless mother where the hero sweeps in to rescue from the snowstorm. But I basically read all holiday books as long as they contain some romance.

I’ll Be Home is a very good collection of four novellas in one book by the Fab Four authors. Each story is very good!
