I have a to-do list. I was with some folks the other night–don’t even remember where–and someone mentioned a bucket list. I started thinking . . . I don’t really have one. There are things I might like to do (like spend a week on a dude ranch or visit Rome), but I’m not dying to do those things. So I wouldn’t say they’re on a bucket list.
Instead I have a to-do list, things I’d like to do provided I have free time, the weather is good, and I have the energy. Things on my to-do list:
- Scrape the cocoons from my front porch ceiling and repaint it.
- Pull the vines from the trees in my yard (I do that all the time, but they grow quickly).
- Go down into the creek and chop down some weedy trees.
- Paint more pictures.
- Take my grandkids to Tractor Supply
- Get a bigger car–one that will hold our entire family, including grands.
- Read more books.
- Practice the piano
- Powerwash everything–I’d powerwash the world if I could.
These things aren’t urgent or demanding, nor am I itching to do them. They’re just on a sometime-when-I’m-in-the-mood list.
What’s on your list? I’d love to know!

I like the idea of a to-do list, which implies checking things off, not just hoping someday maybe if all the stars align right you’ll get to do them. A few things on my to-do list that I know I’ll actually enjoy but that I keep thinking won’t happen until I retire:
• Go through the 75,000+ photos on my laptop, delete duplicates, and LABEL all of them!
• Go through two huge tubs of family photos from both sides of the family and find some way to organize and label them.
• Sort through three large file boxes of research, correspondence, and promotional materials that span my 29 years as a writer. Early on, when I thought I’d only write one or two books, I saved EVERY scrap related to my books. Nowadays most everything is digital, but those files are fat and need paring down or tossing altogether!

Those are worthy tasks, Deb! I hope one day you have the time to do them. My problem is when I have the time, I don’t have the inclination, and when I have the inclination, I don’t have the time. 🙂

That’s my problem too, Angie. I’m off work today because of Juneteenth and that should open up a whole world of marking off the to do list…but I’m sitting in my power lift chair, drinking my first cup of coffee with my 6 year old Cavalier King Charles sleeping comfortably on my left leg…while I plan when my first nap will be because I have not slept well the last three nights. 😀

Getting in some sleep time sounds like a worthy goal to me, Shelia. I had a rough night two nights ago–woke up with the mother of all Charley horses in my leg, then a thunderstorm came and made the dogs nervous, then my 200 pounder panted in my face all night. So getting a nap was on my to-do list yesterday!

I don’t have a bucket list either but I’m like you, I have a to do list. Just things I want to do around my house. My husband passed away in August of 2021 and it’s been hard to get things done. I miss him so much and him taking care of things outside. I don’t have a son but I have two daughters and they are married. My son in laws do help me but I hate to ask them to do everything I need done.

Bless you, Brenda. Maybe you can tackle one item per week? Praying for you!
