Many times over the last 40+ years, rather than say, “I love writing,” I’ve said, “I love having written.” That is still true; I love having written. I love meeting my word goal and feeling good about the accomplishment. However, I’m in a stage of my career where I am loving the writing as much as having written.
So I thought I would look at a few things I love as I write:
1. Bringing History to Life – I love weaving historical details into my romances. I find joy in making the past feel real and vivid, allowing readers to step into another time and place.
2. Crafting Meaningful Relationships – My stories focus on deep, heartfelt relationships, romantic and otherwise. Whether it’s a heroine finding love, a couple overcoming obstacles, or a town coming together, I love writing about how people grow, change, and find where they truly belong.
3. Exploring Faith and Redemption – My novels carry themes of faith, hope, and second chances. Whether through a reformed troublemaker, a heroine seeking purpose, or a couple finding love after hardship, I cherish writing stories that reflect God’s grace and the power of love to transform lives.
I really hope readers can perceive the love that goes into the stories I write.
So tell me, what makes you fall in love with the books you read?

Your post has inspired me to check out some more of your books on my next library visit. Love your purposes in writing! Thank you for writing winderful, God-glorifying books!
Thank you, Patricia. Hope you enjoy more of my books.
All of the things you mentioned. I love historical fiction because I learn so much. I just received your third British Are Coming book.
Keep writing!
Hope you enjoy To Capture a Mountain Man. I am loving writing the next book (Roger’s story), and my cover designer is working on the cover for book #5 (William’s story).
I love all of what you said – relationships, being transported to other places and times, a beautiful faith element woven through the story, and when I am finished with the book I want to be able to say: I’m glad I read this book.
That’s a great final comment, Alana. Thanks for chiming in.
I most enjoy the history!
History was always one of my favorite subjects in school.
A book with twists I would not expect, characters I consider real and ones I’d like to meet, a story that sticks with me long after I’ve reached the last page. Also, when I want more of their story. Those are the books I say “That was a great book” and recommend them to my friends.
Oh, yes. When a book is great, we can’t help recommending to friends!
