In My Happy Place…Again

June 11, 2019 By Julie Klassen

I am pre-posting this, but if all goes as planned (Lord willing!) I am now in England, preparing to lead my second group trip to the beautiful country where all of my books have been set so far.

Our 2017 group in front of Charingworth Manor on a windy day!

I am blessed to be traveling with a group of 30 reader-friends from many different states and 3 different countries (Australia, Canada, US). Together with two travel professionals, we have been planning and dreaming about this trip for over a year. The majority of the group members are female, but my husband is traveling with us this time, along with 5 other brave husbands. I’ve met many of the travelers before (previous travelers, writer-friends, local friends—even my aunt and uncle!), but several I will meet for the first time in London. This is only my second time hosting a group, so I’m a little nervous, but mostly excited to show people around my second favorite country.

While we’re in England, we’ll visit some of my favorite places, including a few related to my own novels, like the beautiful Cotswolds region (where The Girl in the Gatehouse is set), the breathtaking Cornwall Coast (near where The Tutor’s Daughter was set. Also Poldark!) and  Lacock—the National Trust village that serves as the model for Ivy Hill in the Tales From Ivy Hill series. We’ll also be visiting locations related to Jane Austen like the historic city of Bath, Lyme Regis (Persuasion), and her home in Chawton.

Historic Bath and Jane Austen’s House Museum, Chawton

While I’m gone, I will try to post daily photos to Facebook if I can. And when we return, I will be sure to share pictures and stories from the trip here. But since my access to the internet will be limited while I’m traveling, this post will have to do for now.

St. Ives, Cornwall—one of the new places we’ll explore.

In the meantime, I would really appreciate your prayers for a safe trip for all (and for my two sons who will be holding the fort here at home). Thank you so much!

    Awesome, have a wonderful time!
Last month, I visited Bath for the 2nd time and Lacock for the 1st time during small group day excursions from London. The weather was cooler but still pleasant.
    See you next posting… 🙂
