It’s Almost Christmas Reading Time

October 18, 2023 By D'Ann Mateer

Every year I look forward to November and December, when my reading takes on a seasonal theme. I used to just read Christmas-themed books in December. Then I moved to “after Thanksgiving Day.” Now, I give myself two entire months!

Not that I only read Christmas books during those weeks, but I do make them a priority. So I thought I’d share with a you a few I’m looking forward to reading.

My True Love Gave to Me by Karen Witemeyer

Technically this is a short story—and as such will likely be the kick-off to my Christmas reading season. I always look forward to Karen’s stories in any form.

O Little Town by Deborah Raney, Janyre Tromp, and Amanda Wen

Christmas novella collections are some of my favorites—especially when they are connected by place. This one is contemporary stories. I didn’t get to it last year, but I will in 2023!

Christmas Bells and Wedding Vows by Jody Hedlund, Lacy Williams and Misty M. Beller

Another novella collection—this one historical. These are all Christmas marriage of convenience stories.

The Meaning in Mistletoe by Rachael Bloome

Last year I read The Clause in Christmas, Poppy Creek series book 1. I loved it so much that I read books 2 & 3. I got ready for book 4—The Meaning in Mistletoe—around the beginning of September. Since it is another Christmas book in the series, I put it aside to read during the season. This is a charming series!

Star of Wonder by Angela Hunt

This isn’t a novel but an advent devotional. I choose a new advent devotional each year and I’m looking forward to this one!

Of course I have many more options out there, but these are the first ones on the list for 2023.

Do you read Christmas-themed books in November and/or December? Is there one you are looking forward to this year?

Oh! I’m so tickled to see O Little Town on your list, D’Ann! I hope you enjoy it. That looks like a great list! I need to add those to my own Christmas reading list!

I like all those suggestions, D’Ann. Here’s another one I’m looking forward to reading, “A Louisiana Christmas to Remember” by Betsy St.Amant, Morgan Tarpley Smith and Lenora Worth!

What a great list, D’Ann! I’m excited to help you kick off your Christmas reading season with Simeon and Anna’s story. 🙂 I also have Christmas Bells & Wedding Vows waiting for me on my Kindle. Love those authors and can’t wait to dive in. And Angela’s Star of Wonder is sitting on my kitchen table as we speak, waiting patiently for me to finish my current devotional so I can read that one for the advent season. I love the idea of having a specific devotional book for advent. I’ve only done this once before, but I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to what is sure to be an inspiring read.

I love reading Christmas themed books during this season. I usually start directly after Thanksgiving but I may have to change that and start sooner like you are! Your list looks fun. I am glad to see your fellow author bloggers represented so well! I have Karen Witemeyer’s already in queue on my Kindle and I will have to look into some of the others. Besides that one, I know this year I will be reading some more stories from a Jane Austen inspired Christmas anthology I won last year. I also try to find a Christmas themed cozy mystery if I can & always do a devotional like you are. I don’t know what else I may try to sneak in before it gets too far into the new year!

Thanks so much for putting STAR OF WONDER on your list! I loved working on that book, as it combines many of my loves–Christmas, Jesus, and the Jewish people. I hope you enjoy it and see Christmas with new eyes!

I’d like to be entered in your giveaway for “A Winter By the Sea”. My sister Barbara Raymond told me about it.
