Lessons Learned & Joyful Reminders

Hi friends, and happy Wednesday! 

I just returned from hosting a writing retreat, and I had the best time. While I was the one teaching, the sweet attendees taught me just as much, if not more.

We stayed at two cabins in West Virginia, and while that might bring something rustic to mind, these cabins my family loves to stay at are anything but. The owner has the best decorating eyes. No detail is left untouched. It reminded me of my interior decorator mom—from the rich colors used to the arrangement of furniture—it was like being back in a room my mom had designed, which brought a big smile to my face and joy to my heart. 

While the cabins are cozy and beautiful, being smack in the middle of nature was amazing. I don’t know about you, but I always feel so much closer to God when I’m surrounded by His creation. And, we spent a lot of time in it. Whether going for walks, sitting on the porch engulfed by woods, circling around the fire pit at night, or watching deer in the front yard, it was so soothing to my soul, and I learned, or rather was reminded of, the peace that God’s creation fills me with. 

Our imitate group of seven—all published authors and one awesome mentee helper— really showed me the joys of fellowship. From laughing over dinner to deep discussions on writing Christian fiction to the craft itself, friendships were made, and I was blessed. 

Last but certainly not least, I learned what a S’moreeo is. Instead of fumbling with chocolate and graham crackers, you simply open an Oreo and slip the roasted marshmallow in. Yum!
