Let it snow!

January 26, 2026 By Deborah Raney

Snow day! I know many of you are in the huge 2000-mile swath of snow covering the U.S. We didn’t get as much snow as I was hoping for here in Southeast Missouri, but it’s the most we’ve had since moving here.

While my heart goes out to all those who have to get out in this sub-zero weather, I am absolutely loving the snow! Two red foxes walked through our backyard and left footprints in our dry creek, but sadly I didn’t have my camera handy. I did capture the deer on the snow though. Everything is SO pretty, and we even had some sunshine yesterday afternoon.

Please note that this is a Valentine’s tree and I’m early putting it up, not late taking down our Christmas tree. 😉
The view from my office window. I’m in the thick of writing a new novel in The God Who series and I’m perfectly happy to be stuck inside with nowhere to go!

Tell me about the weather where you are. Are you snowed in or happily basking in sunshine somewhere warm?

Gorgeous pics! And LOL on the “I’m early putting up the Valentine’s tree.” It’s C-O-L-D here in Nashville with snow and ice, and yes, we’re praying for those truly affected by all this—and for warmer temps to return!

You’ll be laughing even harder when I take off the hearts and put Easter eggs on that tree! 😉

Nine inches of snow and some sleet and temperatures not to get above freezing this whole week before another bout is said headed our way next weekend, we are homebound for the duration. Blessed with a whole house generator, a well stocked pantry and being retired, we are good.

Glad you are well-prepared, Kay! That’s one good thing about this storm: we had lots of advance warning. Spring will be very welcome to you, I’m sure!

Oh, black ice is the scariest! Many prayers for anyone who has no choice but to get out on the roads!

We’re iced in here in the Dallas area until at least tomorrow, when the temps rise over freezing. I don’t mind it at all, especially when it was over the weekend and I could just read and rest before a busy next few months!

I couldn’t agree more, D’Ann. I read more this past weekend than I have the rest of the year so far! Lovely!

We had snow in Virginia Beach, yes I said beach, and we do get snow, but didn’t have it as bad as the rest of Virginia. We lucked out when rain followed and melted all snow by 10:30 a.m. Temps rose to 52, but today it has gone below freezing and heading to 18 degrees with ice from last night’s rain.

I bet beach snow is pretty—and rare! I’d love to see it but I’m guessing most people don’t choose to live beachside because of the snow. 🙂 Stay warm and safe, Betty!

We’re in sunny Arizona, so we didn’t see any white stuff. Today it’s in the mid-60s. Not complaining at all. Love your pictures of the snow. Happy writing!

I’m not jealous yet, Janetta, but give me about 2 weeks and I will be! 🙂 Glad you’re where it’s warm!

It’s snowy here in Dallas, too! I’m also thoroughly enjoying it. I’ve loved walking down our street after dark because the snow is making it as light as twilight–I can see everything. Today is the best day yet–snowy AND sunny.

Yes! Same here, Becky. Snow and sun. What a gorgeous combination! Enjoy!

Here in rural Missouri it is a balmy 19° after a frigid start to the day of -5°. We have around 6-7″ of snow on the ground. I am ready for spring. It isn’t supposed to get above freezing all week. I am home on a snow day from the elementary school where I work.

Brrrrr! That’s COLD! Happy snow day.

I love the pictures, Deb! Glad you’re enjoying some snow and woodland critters adventuring out to play in it. We had around seven inches (could be a few more, hard to know with the drifts) so I got to work from home today! The rest of the week we get to wear jeans since it is so cold. What a perk.

Warm hugs to you and Ken!

Work from home and then jeans to work sounds like a pretty good deal! Hugs back at you! <3

We got a good dumping of snow here in the metro DC region on Sunday. The sleet and rain compounded the snow in intervals so that’s been the hard part of shoveling out. Most school systems are closed today and will remain closed tomorrow (1/27).
Stay safe and warm if you were in the affected path of snowstorm!

      January 26, 2026 at 5:23 pm

Amen! Echoing your “stay safe and warm,” Elisa!

We had about 7 inches of snow Friday and Saturday and bitterly cold temperatures in central Kansas. We didn’t have school today because of the cold (-5 at 8 a.m. this morning). I waited till Sunday afternoon to clean my driveway when it sunny and about 10 degrees. Thankfully my neighbors came over to help. I was sorry to miss church but thankful to be able to watch online. I enjoyed my time at home but it’s back to work tomorrow.

Can you box that snow, Deb, and send it up to me? Spokane, WA. has barely had 8″ of snow so far and we need a lot more! (I never thought I’d say that…). And our National Weather Service people have said that the Rocky’s have almost no snow pack and that’s where all our water comes from. So, yes, I envy you – beautiful pictures, particularly that sweet deer!

    • Deborah Raney says

      January 27, 2026 at 7:53 am

Sorry, Lynne, we don’t have enough to share! But sure hope the Rockies get enough snow before winter is over!
