‘Fess up! Are you a person who writes in their Bible?
Last night I attended a Bible study and as I was looking up various Scriptures, I spotted precious notes, timely reminders, and personal pleas that I’ve written in the margins through the years.
And I was reminded, yet again, of how faithful God is in answering prayer. One big prayer especially—which I listed last below.
I loved running across the note about how Mom glorified God in her death. And she did. By her trusting attitude, her continued faith in Jesus, and in how well she loved her family to the very last. I can hardly believe that August 17 will mark ten years since she went Home. Oh, how I miss her. But I’ll see her again one day [and I still talk to her often. : ) ].
And oh that note on comparing ourselves to others! Do you struggle with that? Me? SO GUILTY! “Just follow Jesus, Tammy. Just follow Jesus!”
Oh what a great truth (and reminder) this is. Especially when life (and quite often my own sinfulness) gives me a really good look at who I am without Christ. #therespowerinHisblood #workinprogress
This is a constant prayer of mine. For understanding—and wisdom.
Oh, don’t you love these verses! There’s never been a time—even in your mother’s womb—when God didn’t love you. When he wasn’t pursuing you. When he wasn’t your God.
I’m big on dating the notes in my Bible, are you? It helps me remember when I was walking through certain seasons. Plus it reminds me of God’s continual faithfulness through the passing years.
I’ve got notes for other people in my Bible, too. Judy Miller once shared her “word of comfort” Scripture with me, and I made note of it. So every time I see this now, I think of (and pray for) her.
Here’s another one of those “word of comfort” Scriptures that Patti Jo Moore shared with me. ; ) I love the note about her Mom’s Crisco pie crust, too!
And lastly, the prayer I prayed for years. A prayer that God put on my heart back on April 5, 2010. He planted the dream of my going to Israel. Of walking where Jesus walked. And that happened this year! Hence, the note in the righthand margin. Thank you, Lord! What a blessing that trip was. : )
What notes and reminders and prayers do you have in your Bible? Is yours all marked up like mine? The binding is slowing coming apart again, which I plan to have fixed this summer. But this specific copy of God’s Word holds the past 15 years or so of my walk with Him. It’s a treasure, for sure.
Is there one specific note in your Bible that’s caught your eye recently? Share it, if you would. And if you love coffee and frothy things, be sure to check out my June giveaway below.
Blessings, friends,
Tammy

This pic is from last night. I adore these puppies and their energy and unconditional love and playfulness and stamina and excitement at anything that moves! But I also really love it when they’re recharging. I mean . . . sleeping. : )
Have you entered my JUNE GIVEAWAY?
It’s for one of my all-time favorite kitchen gadgets—a frother—that I use several times a day. This little thing is amazing. I’d love to share it with you!

Hi Tammy,
What a beautiful post about God’s faithfulness to us and your faithfulness to Him. Thanks for the reminder to be in God’s Word daily and not just to read His Word but to be prayerful and engaged in it. Have a wonderful day, lady!

Hey Dani, and thanks for sharing today! As Kristi McLelland always says (she was teaching the study last night), “We don’t read the word of God so much as we eat it. We come to God’s table to feast!” I love that.

I do mark in my Bible. It usually helps me to clarify what I’m reading and serves as a reminder going forward. Some of the notes also point to other passages in the Bible to show me that it was important enough that God pointed it out a couple of times. I like to highlight as well (with special Bible highlighters). I think these markings reveal a well used Bible.

Joy, I love that you write in your Bible too! And yes yes yes on marking Scriptures that relate to one another. So good! Thanks for sharing!

I don’t mark in my Bible, but maybe I need to start. I have lots of little papers and notes stuffed in the pages.
So glad you got to go to Israel. You’re an inspiration! Thanks for sharing.

Yes, Betty! Join us and start marking that Bible up!; )
I have my Mom’s Bible and I flip through it from time to time and read the notes she wrote in her margins too. When she was still here, I used to always tease her about how she liked like to write on “backsides and bottoms.” When giving a gift, she would write a note on the back of that gift (if space allowed). On the backs of pictures, bottoms of statues, anything that had a surface, June Gattis left a “love note.” And you can imagine how treasured those notes (and her Bible) are to me now. Love you, friend!

I do write in my Bible! I don’t go back all the time to see what I’ve written, but when I come across something from the past, it’s wonderful to read. I sometimes date them…Adorable puppies! We live next door to our son and family, who have a chocolate lab puppy. Oh my! I count her as the 3rd child (I watch the youngest, and now the puppy) while mommy works. I can’t keep up!

Angie, my fellow Bible margin scribbler, thanks for sharing! And oh…that lab puppy sounds adorable! And full of energy! ; )

I write lots of comments in my Bible, but I rarely date them. Why haven’t I done that??? Think I will start! 🙂

Love that, D’Ann. And you too! Thanks for sharing today. I love the community we have here.

I wrote in my bible nearly every day. Notes to God go in there also.

Oh I definitely mark in my bible regularly, although it never occurred to me to date the remarks. The pages are thin and worn with some of the writing having faded over the years. Oh how I love my bible!!

You have encouraged me to start this . I mark in other books, but not my Bible. 2 years ago, my husband journeyed to heaven. His Bible is a true treasure. He was a minister for many years and his Bible was rebound a few times. I love words and I still feel connected to him through the words that he penned,
