I don’t know if you saw the hilarious picture of lamb cakes that was going around on Facebook . . .
This photo makes me laugh every time I look at it. But because I love baking, I decided I had to make a lamb cake this year. Only I wouldn’t make it at Easter, but at Passover . . . and I’d bake a cake with no yeast, baking powder, or baking soda, so there would be no leaven. (Pound cake fits the bill.)
I thought it would be easy . . . and boy, was I wrong! I gave it a good try, but by the time I was finished, I was exhausted . . . which might have also been caused by my baking macaron shells at the same time. My kitchen was crazy!
Anyway, here’s my lamb cake. My icing was too dry, which I soon realized, but I was too tired to empty the piping bag, wet it, and start again. Then I ran out of icing (oops), then the brown icing wasn’t dark enough, and I was too tired to unbag the icing and start again. Do you recognize a theme here?
In any case, next year I’ll have a better handle on it. In the meantime, if YOU want to bake a lamb cake (the grandkids loved it), you’ll have to find a cake pan on ebay, as Wilton seems to have discontinued it. You can find them on Amazon, but the price is ridiculous. I think I paid about $15 for mine on eBay. But it’s a fun tradition, pound cake works great, and it’s a great way to remind our people that Jesus was our passover lamb.
Have you made a lamb cake? How did yours turn out?
Angie

LOL! Yours is definitely the best of the bunch, Angie! The one with the strawberry google-eyes cracks me up. We’re trying hard to stay away from sugar, so I rarely bake anything but bread these days. I miss it though.

I need to join you on that sugar avoidance thing–but it’s hard when you’re baking every week. The lamb project was fun, though–I just shouldn’t have combined it with the macarons!

No, but I have made my share of turkey cakes–my son’s birthday falls on Thanksgiving every few years! the last time I baked it was when Mike was over our house with his wife and three sons. I told him I was making him a cake, but he asked for my apple dumplings instead. I made both because his wife thought it would be fun!

A turkey cake? I can only hope it wasn’t standing up! Those skinny turkey legs would be hard to handle. Congratulations on your bravery, Lauraine!

Okay, I caved. My own Lamb of God Cake Pan purchased from ebay arrives in a few days. LOL I LOVE giving my grandchildren a tangible/edible/memorable reminder that Easter is about Jesus, not a bunny! And I love traditions too. So next year? Lamb of God Cake for all! Love your posts, my friend.

yea! Next year we can swap Lamb of God cake stories and pictures. Thanks for joining me on the adventure!

Your lamb cake is the best of all those pictured! Nice job! I’ve never made a lamb cake. I have made bunny cakes a few times and they are hideous. LOL A few years ago I let my granddaughter decorate the cake and it was the best bunny cake we’ve ever had! She’s super talented as an artist, which I’m not!

You should add a lamb cake pan to your menagerie and let your granddaughter to go work. It’s a great reminder of what Easter is really all about! 🙂 Isn’t it great to have an artist in the family? My daughter is really good, but she’s not into baking, unfortunately.
