Merry Christmas!

December 25, 2020 By Becky Wade

On this wonderful day, the day of the year when we celebrate our Savior’s birth, I hope you’ll be blessed by the lyrics to the song “I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day”, based on the poem “Christmas Bells” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play
And mild and sweet their songs repeat
Of peace on earth good will to men

And the bells are ringing
Like a choir they’re singing
In my heart I hear them
Peace on earth, good will to men

And in despair I bowed my head
There is no peace on earth I said
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men

But the bells are ringing
Like a choir singing
Does anybody hear them?
Peace on earth, good will to men

Then rang the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor does he sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail

With peace on earth, good will to men

Then ringing singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men

Merry Christmas to all you Christian authors and a big “thank-you” for the hours of enjoyment you provide with the books you write. Wishing you all a blessed day and a happy and healthy new year!

I have always loved this song. Jennifer Chiaverini wrote a wonderful book, Christmas Bells, which tells of Longfellows personal tragedies and faith. It’s a dual timeline story, set in present day as well as Longfellows time. Highly recommended.

    Merry Christmas to all!
