My Wednesday came around before I was ready for it. Isn’t that how life goes?
So, mind full of my work-in-progress, I’m going for one of my next favorite things besides books: Movies.
I love romantic movies. I love that ahhhh feeling when all things turn out the way they were meant to at the end of the film. I even love shedding a few tears during the movie and/or at the end.
I have lots of favorites. Lots. Given enough time and plenty of space, I could amaze you with all those movies I love and the reasons I love them.
So let’s talk about the last romantic movie we’ve seen. Is it a new favorite?
Mine is definitely a new favorite: Brooklyn.
BROOKLYN tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother’s home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past, and Eilis must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.
I was drawn quickly into this film. I felt Eilis’s homesickness in such a keen way. It was if I’d been transported across an ocean from home at a time when I couldn’t hop a plane for home. I loved the young Italian who she fell in love with. I was surprised and hurt by some choices she made. And I rejoiced when she discovers the truth in her heart.
Okay, your turn. What was the last romantic movie you saw? And is it a new favorite?

It’s sad that I can’t think of even one! I guess that means I should sit down and watch a few. Thanks for the recommendation, Robin.

I saw that movie recently as well. I was a little disappointed that it seemed as if she had to “get caught” before she decided to go back. Apparently in the book her choice is left more vague. Otherwise, I thought the movie was beautifully made. Thanks, Robin. Fun to hear what you thought.

I very much agree with “The Lost Valentine”!!! I also really liked “The Hundred Foot Journey.” It’s not primarily a romance but does have a romance within it.

I am watching The Hundred Foot Journey for the third time, and just told my husband today that it’s my favorite movie of the DECADE!! The music is lush, the set is lavish, the characters are adorable. I just love everything about it!

Oh, I’ve really been wanting to watch Brooklyn! I’m on the hold list for it at my library. 😉
And the last romantic movie I watched? That would be: Remember Sunday. IT’s not a new favorite because I’ve already seen it several times and it never gets old. 🙂
